The thing about Obsession 2026 that gets to me is that the initial wish is a spur of the moment decision. Men don’t always control women with intentional, well-planned actions. Bear was not initially trying to control every aspect of her life, he didn’t even think it would work. He didn’t think of it as an act of violence. And at no point does he put his hands on her, or anyone. But because of his flippant decisions, spurred emotional immaturity, violence befalls everyone involved, including himself. He indirectly killed Sarah, and Ian, and (directly killed) himself, and he is the reason Nikki has cuts and contusions on her face, and probably has multiple concussions and broken bones…not to mention the level of mental and emotional trauma dealt to her. At every turn he makes the selfish choice. And from start to finish, the movie is easily able to convey three things: 1. Loss of autonomy is a form of violence. 2. Men ruin everything. 3. Liberty is not the same as freedom.
