Hey guys! I hope all of you made it save to this new year. Those of you who were working: Thanks for doing this! It means that we others can stay home and just sleep. Well... More or less.
I wanted to write something already before Christmas. But it’s been just a few crazy weeks. There was so much work to do, that the moment I came home, meant getting into bed and sleeping for a few hours.
Today I finally found the motivation. Kind of. It’s been one of those weeks again and I am just done with it.
So what’s new? Like I said, Christmas time until today was just hell. Most people should be arrested for calling an ambulance, cause they’re calling for shit... So basically 50% of all calls were not really worth an ambulance. The other 50% percent were either people who wanted to kill themselves, people that actually managed to kill themselves while driving through snow with summer wheels and people that tried/managed to blow themselves up during the New Years Party. Is it like that in other countries too? I’d be really interested in that.
So those last few days were kind of funny. Most of the time I was the only girl at the station, cause the others were on vacation... You know, most of the time, the boys are okay, if you know how to handle them. But sometimes they become just too much.
January 2nd was my birthday. And I’m not a person that’s really into that. As a kid I could never celebrate, because at that time, usually all the others were skying. So, I’m fine with not anyone knowing. The day started well, I got a new intern. She’s actually a nurse in training at an old peoples home. She’s nice and all, but it is really sad to see how badly they are trained in first aid. She brought her booklet today cause I asked her for it. And I just looked at my colleague and didn’t know what to say.
I mean, is it really necessary to spend 6 months on story telling, music and rhythm and creative art but requiring only 3 simple things in first aid: Calling an ambulance, basic wound management and knowing how to tell people that granny died.
It didn’t say anything about CPR, how and when to give oxygen, and common deseases.
That’s just sad. So the next weeks, will be spend with learning this. Today she learned how to meassure the BP, let’s see what Monday brings.
But all in all she’s a very nice girl. She just hasn’t learned, that the intern should ALWAYS help. Or at least offer help. Some colleagues don’t like it...
So I’ll continue this. I gotta go. The girls actually found out and are now dragging me out for a beer ^^
