In the event that someone has stolen your fic, posted it on ffnet and refuses to take it down, here's a tutorial (aka. a call to arms) to report it and hopefully get it taken down.

Go on the stolen fic's page. Scroll to the bottom to where it says "Actions" and then select "Report Abuse" as shown below.

2. A new window should pop up looking like the one below. You should see a drop down menu that says "--Please select violation type--" Click on that and then scroll until you see "Not the property of uploading writer." Select it.

3. Then type a short summary of what happened, I included one of my own complaints below. I'd recommend including the link of the original fic as proof.

4. Fill out the little 'prove your not a bot' thingy by typing in the 4 digit/letter code. Note: you may have to refresh the page and repeat step 1 a few times if the code doesn't display the first time. I had issues with it.

5. Hit report. You should see the following confirmation message verifying that your report has been submitted.

as much as madoka magical doesn't deserve its reputation of inventing dark magical girl/shoujo deconstructions (it's at least the third to do that) i really don't think we give it enough credit for having one of its main characters' primary combat style be "a bunch of guns she stole from the military"

The Madoka Magica girls act the way they do largely because that’s what things are like when you’re 14. However for Homura, when you add up all the time she’s been in loops, she’s actually 26. You might think this means she has no excuse, but considering she’s been 14 years old for 12 years, I think she’s the most 14 any girl has ever been

Jokes aside when you sit down and actually look at it, she's a 14-year-old with 26 years of experience of being a magical girl and trying to save Madoka, and absolutely NOTHING ELSE. Also bear in mind that prior to her getting out of the hospital in the first place, she was almost completely isolated from her peers due to her illness. Developmentally speaking, she was probably already VERY behind where she should have been and then instead of getting 26 years of physical brain development and varied lived experiences that generally contribute to adults being more, yknow, mentally mature in the first place.

So essentially, Homura was a turbo-homeschooled kid who really, REALLY latched on to the first real friend she ever had whose 14-year-old brain ends up getting 26 years of magical girl trauma and NOTHING ELSE, specifically out of devotion and obsession towards said friend.

Girl's entire life experience boils down to Madoka and fighting Witches, all while being developmentally 14 forever. So yes basically the most 14 any girl has ever been while also having 26 years of child soldier trauma.

Homura is just straight up one of the weirdest people imaginable. Like, forget about the time loop tragic doomed romance for a bit, I want to see what it looks like if she wins and then actually tries to romance Madoka. She has a massive collection of illegal firearms. She builds her own bombs. She lives in an ultra-modernist white box apartment that she's decorated with a couch made of concentric circles, a giant swinging knife pendulum to remind her of the ever-present flow of time, and a wall of several dozen screens. She communicates primarily in vague and ominous warnings and is more or less incapable of saying anything directly. She addresses everyone she meets by their full name with no honorific which comes across as bizarre and intimidating. If you count time loop years she's 26. She was raised in a catholic orphanage. I want to see her take Madoka on a horrifically bad date and cry in the bathroom partway through when she realizes she's fucking up

This is why Madoka is the ideal partner for Homura. Madoka meets a corkscrew-haired blond dual-toting rifles jumping into void portals to fight paper-mache nightmare manifestations, and instead of fleeing to the nearest authority figure in about a week she is down to enlist herself in the shadow games out of an explicitly-stated fit of "I have nothing better to do" pique. Homura would take her on a first date to a bomb-rigged shooting gallery in space where the targets are crucified porcelain dolls and it would be Madoka's new favorite game in five minutes. No one has ever been down for literally anything the way Madoka is.

I think I know how this works.

For personal context, before I went to the '98 Burning Man festival, one of the things I'd read from a couple different journalists was that "everybody" runs around naked. Which, fine by me, I'd already spent a lot of time in clothing-optional spaces, I'm not fanatic about it but it's nice.

So I got there early and set up a public shade structure on one of Black Rock City's main roads and spent most of each afternoon just watching the crowds go by. I don't remember seeing more than one actually naked person the whole week. I think a topless woman passed by my intersection maybe every half an hour, sometimes once an hour. So why in the hell were people, normally pretty smart and observant writers, coming away with the impression that everybody was naked?

Then I remembered an unrelated passage from Joel Garreau's great book about the history of the outer-ring suburbs, Edge City. Mall developers told him flat-out that they tried to keep the crowds in their malls less than 5% black. Not because they themselves were racist, but because they had determined, experimentally, that if more than 5% of the people in the mall are black, the median white shopper will wrongly describe the mall as at least half black, as mostly black. And not a few of them would describe it, at 6% black, as a mall where "only black people go." Why?

Because, emotionally, they were still upset over the last one when the next one came into view.

Same as the journalists describing Black Rock City as all naked. Same as the right-wing religious culture warriors describing television as entirely mixed-race and gender non-conforming. Not because it's even vaguely true, we know that, but because they haven't gotten over their discomfort over the last one by the time the next one comes along. The anger, not the stimulus, is the part that's continuous, so their mind lies to them that it's "all" the thing they can't get over.
