You don’t have to fix someone to be worthy of being liked.
You don’t have to stay up late solving everyone’s problems, giving endless advice, or carrying emotions that aren’t yours just so people won’t leave. Your value isn’t measured by how useful you are, how available you are, or how much of yourself you give away.
You are allowed to just exist and still be cared about. You are allowed to be liked for your personality, your humour, your presence, your honesty; not just for the help you provide.
Real connections aren’t built on you constantly proving your worth. They are built on mutual care, respect, and comfort. People who truly value you don’t keep you around just because you are helpful, they keep you around because you are you.
So it’s okay to rest. It’s okay to say, “I can’t fix this for you.” It’s okay to set boundaries and still expect kindness in return.
You deserve relationships where you don’t have to earn your place every day. You deserve to feel wanted, not just needed.
I think my sicko brain has been leading me for years toward an ever-deeper identification with the idea of simply melting into a gestalt mind. There are not nearly enough benevolent superorganisms in fiction. It is always: "Raahh, look out — a universal, totalizing force that kills you, repurposes you, and absolutely is not, but definitely is, a Cold War-era psyop about communism!"
But what if everyone fusing into a single biohorror is actually the higher evolutionary form? Just as the prokaryotic world gave way to our world through eukaryogenesis, perhaps we are living inside an incomplete transitional stage. And not only our civilization — with its factories, farms, lithium mines, extermination camps, states, armies, borders, money, and so on — but the entire biosphere: an assemblage of eukaryotic clusters governed by the blind lawlessness of natural selection.
We have scarcely begun to grasp the possibility of a noöbiosphere: consciousness emerging from matter organized and interconnected on a planetary scale. Biological forms and metabolic processes would become objects of conscious coordination rather than products of competition and accident.
This would not necessarily be utopian. But such a consciousness might be unalienated, at least in the sense of being unalienable from itself — or themselves. Whatever it became, it would belong to an order of existence qualitatively distinct from every previous epoch.

REASONS TO NOT END IT:
"You could be somebody’s everything. You could write a book that a 13 year old reads then looks back on with so much joy and fondness for the rest of their life because they’re so happy you wrote it. You could smile at someone on the worst day of their life, helping them get through it. You could form a friendly connection with a cashier at your grocery store, letting them actually look forward to something at work every week. You could make so many people laugh because you are you.
Just by existing we’re positively impacting those around us, for you what is just being polite to a stranger in public could mean the world to that stranger.
the world is filled with so many people and so many different stories that follow those people.
So many people wish for their story to be known and seen and wish to see the stories of others.
Living is so hard, I know it is, but someone somewhere wants desperately to know your story because you brought them joy, or because you just seemed like a lovely person.
and you deserve to be able to see that person again and tell that story.
you deserve to be remembered not as a statistic but as an individual person, a person who is loved and loved so many people.
even if you don’t believe someone out there loves you, and if you can’t think of someone then I’ll be that person.
I love you. And you deserve that love."

You know, an interesting tumblr transformation that's happened gradually, and which I've seen no one talk about: ask-culture has essentially dropped off to nothing.
By which I mean, asks used to be WAY more of the tumblr economy. They used to be more common to send, and receive, and see. They were integral to the collaborative, forum-like behavior of old tumblr communities, not even to speak on the HUGE number of ask-blogs that used to exist to only be interacted with in ask-form.
I'm not saying this in a vying-for-attention way but instead in an observational way: I used to get way way more asks in like 2015, even with a fraction of my follower count. I wonder if it's due to the homogenization of social media sites? There's a lot more of this divide between "content creator" and "consumer" instead of just a bunch of peer blogs who would talk to each other. "Asks" aren't really a thing on twitter, are they? And as I understand it, the closest thing to an "ask" on instagram or tiktok would be a creator screenshotting some comment and responding to it in a new reel or video or whatever those content mediums are. Are asks just too tumblr-specific? Is that aspect of the site culture dying out as more and more people converge to using all their social media sites in the same way?
it's probably from assholes making asks a minefield of trolling/harassment for years with no real blocking ability, which turned people off from allowing asks on their blogs so as a whole the site moved away from it
but now that we do have better blocking, we should try to revive it.
Reblog if your ask box is open.
