Trouble breathing; heart dz

Collapsing

Pale gums; hemoabdomen, IMHA

Distended abdomen; ascites

Retching; GDV

Vomiting more than two times; FB, gastroenteritis, etc.

Bloody diarrhea; HGE

Black tarry stool; GI ulcer

Anorexia

Jaundice; liver dz

Limping/NWB; broken, Lyme, etc.

Constipation/Obstipation

Rat poison/medication ingestion

Laterally recumbent/non-responsive

Seizures

PU/PD; diabetes, kidney dz, etc.

Hypoglycemia

Infectious diseases; Parvo

Urinary obstruction

Thromboembolism

HBC

Wounds/Abscesses

Dehiscence

Ataxia; head trauma, neurological, etc.

Painful; IVDD

I just want to shove this list in clients faces when they think their non-emergency is more important than the emergencies that are being seen before it.

There should totally be a movement called “Sleep in Public” where people defend their right to sleep on public property. Sleep in your cars. Sleep on benches. Sleep at the park. Just make it a mundane and regular part of life to see someone napping in the library. It would make it much harder to single out the homeless for harassment if everyone else is doing the same thing and much harder to argue that it’s a “threat to public safety” when it’s so clearly harmless.

i think its some combination of:

the act itself being an unpleasant sensory experience

absolutely no short term reward

long term reward of “not losing your teeth” too abstract

knowing that no matter how well you do it one day you will still always have to do it again the next

we are bad at remembering to do things by ourselves

For a more short term consequence: it takes less than 10 minutes after you eat sugar (not just processed) for the pH in your mouth to drop enough to allow the acidophillic bacteria (and a menthanogen co-pathogen!) to start to do their tooth decaying thing. It helped me after I saw this graph.

Turns it into a much more relevant issue, 5-10 mins versus months/years. As for short term reword, I like the feel of smooth teeth. I have also tried to make it into my have to do routine for bed, as in, if it I don’t I lay there not feeling like I can go to sleep yet.

My issue is taking a damn shower at a regular enough interval.
