I’ve been taking a intense break from social media and it’s brought a lot of things to the forefront for me. I am noticing who naturally aligns in my life without having digital access to me. it’s crazy the amount of friends that I’ve ran into on the street or have naturally been able to hang out with. i’ve also been observing who I miss when I’m not being exposed to them surface level online who I actually don’t miss now that I’m not being exposed to them online. I’ve gotten more creative about finding events and things to do outside of the meta-verse. I also haven’t been taking that many pictures on my phone and that’s an interesting observation to me because I’m realizing there are things that I actually want to capture or remember or is a lot of of my photography practice what I like to share? I’ve been printing out a lot of my pictures and keeping physical archives again. I’ve also been writing physical letters to friends and emails. Only speaking to some friends via letter has been special. thinking of a time when the only way we could communicate with each other was with letters. it allows for a curiosity to form about what one may be doing in between the letter. there’s also this sense of stillness and nervous system regulation that comes over from you knowing that you can’t hear from someone instantly. I think we live in a time where it feels super offensive if our loved ones don’t respond back immediately or at all but I think that we have taken for granted how quickly we are able to access each other and also taking advantage of how quickly we are able to access each other in ways that aren’t even concrete. if all this ended tomorrow and by this I mean these digital spheres and connections that we so closely curate our lives and us for people to see or witness who would you have who would you be?
