Mortal Thor #2 Thoughts

The grittiness continues, with Sigurd going out of his way to try and find the gang that he beat up before and clear Thor’s name.

Spoilers from here on out!

We get more of Kris in this chapter, who I believe is Karnilla, the Queen of The Norns. She has a purple color scheme and is knowledgeable of things that she really shouldn’t know about. Plus I think she’s keeping a few huge secrets from us.

There’s a fucking brutal fight scene, with Sigurd using the hammer attached to a bungie cord to mimic how Mjolnir returns to the user. We see that one of the goons is even wearing a Hydra symbol on his back. Which could be a possible connection to what’s revealed at the end of the chapter.

Blake is back, and is a villain. I’m guessing he’s representing Hydra due to the green color scheme and serpent imagery. Ewing is still using Blake as Jorgumundr, which was set up in Cate’s run, and I think it’s interesting. Blake has a reason to crash out like this, and Loki used this as a way to give Sigurd his own villain.

Overall I’m excited and so ready with how this pans out.

This issue was so intense on so many levels. I do love your Karnilla theory, a lot, and I hope that plays out. I’ve seen so much craziness on twitter about the Blake twist but imo it makes sense given how he’s been developed prior to this run. I understand why people aren’t happy about it, though.

The street-level violence, a human Thor perpetuating extreme violence against other humans, reads a lot different than when the hammer is magical. I’m interested to see if there will be consequences outside of Blake’s involvement for Sigurd.
