dnp and team reached out to me with a new concept for dnpb album. Their prompt was essentially “podcast set, but cosy”.

They sent me a couple of ideas that solidified a clear image in my mind. Their pitches were “lounging on an inflatable sofa” “including the lava lamp” “retro imac w/ album title” and most importantly, “Richard balls”

Now, if you noticed, I drew the “plastic pendant light” thingy hanging from the top, but I removed it at the final render. Simply, it didn’t mesh with the rest of the background, so I removed it.

So the elements I added to their ideas were using the pod set as flooring; they wanted to chill among clouds, so I made the lava blobs float like clouds. Now I know the rocket and lava goo look a bit phallic, but what do you expect from a dnp project?

Binary gay stars orbiting each other or whatever in the background: that's what dnp’s souls do when the world ends.

Coloring: I wanted to convey a well air conditioned room, and blue is a lazy relaxed color.

Posing: relaxed, chill, comfortable. Cute with an attitude.

i guess i'm just saying, without being presumptuous, that it's interesting. it's interesting how it's dan who goes through school being abused by most of his peers for being gay & it's dan who is the rat at the butt of the joke inside the fanbase & it's dan who feels obligated to perform a constant outrage and disgust with his past self & it's dan who is cast as the sexual deviant & it's dan who is too loud and doesn't get the benefit of the doubt on sarcasm or politics & it's dan whose only moments of being universally adored are when he's performing as a feminised sex object

let's be entirely real & honest here, the reason most fans are uncomfortable with "dangender" is not because they're concerned about his privacy or potential personal discomfort* but because they identify with his gender in a transmasculine manner (respectable and i would never discourage this) and find the idea that he might not be entirely male offensive because potentially identifying with a non-man upsets them (you have a misogyny problem).

*an inane argument anyway, because he's an adult who knows damn well the entire parasocial engagement that makes him a living is founded on extensive speculation and fantasy about his and phil's personal lives and he chose to return to being a public figure while perfectly aware of the potential gossipy consequences

"Connect the thing. 3-2-1."

Dan wipes his brow. "And we've got airflow!"

Phil checks on a fully healed, happy Pheal. "Phey're back!"
