okay expand on riz from fantasy high I just finished watching it (honestly felt like the character I wanted to know more about)
top ten asks i really would've expected to get on my fantasy high blog but!
ok so. roughly a couple things that become obvious about riz through analysis. (also, this is assuming you've seen sophomore year, which if you haven't, major spoilers.)
1. the way his relationship with pok affects his relationship with the bad kids. the way he's the same as him and the telling ways he's different. pok passing down his love language also means he passed down the idea that being a martyr, that dying for the cause, is the ultimate show of love. riz, as a habit, will put the case first. which is why it's really telling when he doesn't! when he chooses his friends/family over the case, an overt show of love versus the hereditary one. (leviathan with kalina for fabian and the tunnel in hell with kalina for pok himself)
2. how the setting/worldbuilding of solace/elmville effects riz as a goblin. the gukgaks are the only goblins in elmville, and suburban assimilation and loss of culture in general very much affect his character. (the fact that he tries so hard to be respectable, the fact that he hisses in hell and we didn't even know he could hiss, the fact that we know nothing about the mountains of chaos).
getting into less concrete stuff, some of my opinions
3. riz, as well as the rest of the bad kids, but you asked about riz, by nature of d&d and the limits of actual play, is at a disservice. there are really big holes in just general character development, sometimes. mainly the fact that he was jailed as a minor for three months and put in solitary confinement for most of that and not given a lawyer and for some reason he still wants to be a detective. there's the matter also of the. lack, i guess, of any development (or, any development of personality. i have my own theories about the development of his interpersonal relationships, but i don't want to make this about ships) over the break between season one and two. you have to really actively try and find reasons why someone in such a tumultuous time in which you arguably go through the biggest changes of your life... mostly stays the same? he learns to value his friends a little more, but that's kind of it?
4. he's gay and nonbinary and autistic. eventually he stops wearing suits and gets a leather jacket. uhhh. wears glasses. canon riz doesn't have a tail and that's stupid. oh! everyone always gets this wrong because it's different than canon d&d lore, but according to how brennan compared riz to kalina, riz is at least four feet tall, up to 4'6.
