i know thereās a lot going on but ICE are now one step closer to literally creating gas chambers. they are spraying a chemical called HDQ neutral roughly 100 times a day, every 15 minutes at the adelanto detention center (one of the biggest in the country). people are getting rashes, headaches, their insides are bleeding, etc. the guards are wearing gloves and masks but the detainees have NOTHING. and hereās a quick reminder - america inspired the nazis to create gas chambers when they gassed latino people during the 1917 bath riots.Ā
hereās a petition to sign.Ā itās close to itās goal. if thereās anything else we can do to help iāll update this post.
I donāt have the words to properly explain how horrifying this is. In April, the advocacy group Freedom For Immigrants published a report about unsanitary conditions at the detention center, where the immigrants were made to clean the facilities with only water, or shampoo. According to their report, there were sick detainees there - possibly with COVID-19, but itās unclear since they werenāt being tested - and the conditions could easily lead to a situation in which the virus exploded among those there.
The guards are spraying this disinfectant in retaliation for the report. To be clear - HDQ is an industrial-strength disinfectant, which according to the manufacturer is āharmful if inhaledā and ācauses severe skin burns and serious eye damage.ā The guards are spraying it on everything every 15-30 minutes, according to sources, and immigrants in the center have already experienced severe symptoms including blisters, rashes, bleeding, fainting, breathing difficulties, headaches, stomach pain, and nausea.
And letās be real - ICE doesnāt give a shit, either about protecting these people or about preventing a COVID outbreak. ICE, according to their own reports, currently has 25,911 people in custody, of which only 2,670 have been tested. 1,392 of those were positive. In simple terms - less than 10% of detainees have been tested. Of those, more than half are positive. We cannot estimate how many sick people ICE is currently holding, or how many more will get sick without any kind of prevention or care.
ICE is killing people through neglect, and when they dared complain - they started gassing them.
Unfortunately, with Trump in the white house, petitions arenāt doing much. What we can do, however, is donate to the advocacy group that is bringing these things to light, allowing them to continue their work and hopefully free more immigrants. Their donation page is here. Please spread this.
MLK was assassinated just over 50 years ago
He'd be 91 if he were alive today
Don't ever let them trick you into thinking this was a long time ago
I know there have been a lot of posts going around with links to really important places to donate, but I just found out that Kentuckyās only abortion clinic, and one of only a handful of black-owned clinics in the country, was damaged in the Louisville protests.
Despite the damage, they are still open and seeing patients today.
If you are able, you can donate here.
Donate - Kentucky Reproductive Freedom Fund assist patients, protect rights against legislative restrictions in KY, policy reform, and abort
hey! in the midst of all this, spreading this information could potentially save LOTS of folks out there in protest! it costs Absolutely NOTHING to share. the original thread is on Twitter by strwbrrymew. the link to the thread is here, it contains more important information to note, including a video about how to do a proper eye flush should someone be teargassed.
Adding on to this as I've found more resources.
also bring an extra face mask to swap if yours starts to get irritating during chemical instigation from police!
cops boast about how indispensable they are to keeping order, but when the NYPD went on a two week strike in 2015 to protest the dismissal of the cop who killed eric garner, crime rates went down because no one was ticketing poor people and minorities, and violent crime rates (homicide, rape, assault, robbery) decreased as well.Ā
canāt forget the time when the mayor threatened to investigate corruption within the NYPD and thousands of off duty cops swarmed city hall and blocked the Brooklyn bridge and destroyed plenty of property with the full support of the officers on duty. being held accountable is apparently an okay reason to riot, but the murder of Black people is not. abolish the fucking cops.

The Louisville Community Bail Fund also needs help if you are able! To find groups like these in your own area, check out the National Community Bail Fund Network Directory or search around for your city/state + bail fund and get involved!
What I learned from protesting in Ferguson
1. Don't post pics of fellow protestors. Wear face masks, helmet, googles
2. Turn off your location on your phone. Leave it even. It will be an alibi for you
3. Carry milk with you. Someone in the group should have a leaf blower to blow back gas
4. Travel in groups. Never alone. Move swiftly.
5. Don't go to a protest without knowing about a local bail relief fund. Write the number on your arm.
6. Remember this has happened before and it will happen again unless we have courage.
Burn it all down.
Donāt use milk if you canāt refrigerate it, youāre just going to give someone infections. Use water, it doesnāt relieve pain as much but it flushed pepper spray out of your eyes better.
so direct action is not an option available to you. what can you do right now instead?
Be mindful of the content youāre putting on your social media accounts. Stop retweeting/reposting violent images and videos of black people dying. Know that content like this, even with trigger warnings included, can be very emotionally disturbing/distressing and yes, even traumatic, for black people navigating the internet right now.
Report any images and videos you see where protestorsā faces are visible/unblurred, particularly in content surrounding the lootings. Donāt retweet or repost these images and videos. This can be a death sentence.Ā
DONATE, PARTICULARLY TO MINNESOTA-BASED BLACK YOUTH MOVEMENTS / MUTUAL AID FUNDS WHO ARE DOING WORK ON THE GROUND. FOLLOW/BOOST IF YOU CANāT.

A while back I reblogged THIS POST with resources for helping the Navajo Nation, which is being hit incredibly hard by Covid-19. I purchased a blanket from the Navajo Water Project, with 100% of the profits going to their efforts to bring clean, hot and cold running water to families across New Mexico, Utah and Arizona.
So I just wanted to make a little update post to show everyone how absolutely rad this blanket is, and encourage those who can afford it to visit their site and consider buying one! You get to support this incredible project AND have something beautiful to show for it. They sent it with a lovely handwritten thank you note, which was very nice, but literally it was the LEAST I could do, so THANK YOU NAVAJO WATER PROJECT!
These are Pendleton blankets, by the wayāI own Pendleton blankets my grandmother bought in the late 50s and theyāre still in perfect condition. These are really, really high quality yāall.
Native artwork is honestly fucking gorgeous and it infuriates me that when you think of or try to look up āNative American artā, you get fetishistic, colonizer bullshit.
Iām so fucking sick of it. Weāre always defined by how other people see us.
That and native art is so underrated too. Itās hard to get attention to my artwork, itās hard to get attention to any native artist, art competition, gallery.. anything. We all spend hours, days, even weeks honing our skills and creating art for ourselves and others. People only want the creations we slave over when itās cheap or free. They donāt recognize each detail and itās meaning or the intricacies we took time to sketch out or bead in or sew or anything.
I go to festivals in my area where lots of indigenous people (namely First Nations or Salish) are. A lot of their tents have the stereotypical fetishing native art incorporated into a product somehow and it makes me a little forlorn, but there isnāt much I can do but be sad. Now thatās a part of a bigger issue I canāt get into now, but you see the problem.
Art from all nations needs to be recognized.
I bought art from a creator named Harmony Hoss. She was so friendly and she sells her art at Pikeās Place in Seattle as a Tlingit woman. Tell me her formline isnāt absolutely gorgeous. But she goes so unrecognized because people are so unimpressed with her hard work.
Anyways, support native artists.
For anyone who wants to support Harmony Hoss, she has a website!
Unfortunately, itās incredibly difficult finding real Native artists online just because of how many people blatantly lie or use misdirection to make people think that theyāre Native. If anyone has recommendations for Native artists, feel free to share them!
Here are some native artists and businesses!
Sa-Cinn - https://sa-cinn.com/ - Northwest Coastal-based native business that showcases different artists who make a variety of items such as prints, blankets, jewelry, and drums.
Dancing Blackbird - https://dancingblackbird.com/ - Native hat-band artist based in Arizona. (https://etsy.me/2ES5FDi)
Shotridge - https://shotridgenativeamericanart.com/ - Family-owned Tlingit art business. (https://etsy.me/2EOXXtt)
Harmony Hoss - http://harmonys-art.com/ - Tlingit traditional artist who sells prints online and in Pikeās Place, Seattle. (https://instagram.com/hoss.harmony?igshid=fmqf1v8fjpic)
Thunder Voice Hat co - https://www.thundervoicehatco.com/ - Non-mass produced Navajo-made hats. (https://instagram.com/thundervoicehatco?igshid=qee5nrj3sx0g)
Ahyoka Studio - https://etsy.me/2Zo9ucx - Oji-Cree creator of keychains, earrings, and stylized dreamcatchers. (https://instagram.com/ahyokastudio?igshid=mzkx8liuives)
Earth Maidens Emporium - https://etsy.me/399rAn7 - Jewelry and stylized dreamcatchers made by a Cherokee man and his partner.
Nipinet - https://instagram.com/nipinet?igshid=1f5o0z2i288bx - Anishinaabe MĆ©tis tattoo artist (& a mutual of mine. š¤)
David Robert Boxley - http://davidrobertboxley.com/ - Tsimshian artist. (https://instagram.com/davidrobertboxley?igshid=jktg991on3tm)
Spiderstitch - https://instagram.com/spiderstich?igshid=1eehi5qj4qnds - Mexica-WixƔrika artist who handmakes beaded earrings.
Beyond Buckskin Boutique - http://shop.beyondbuckskin.com/ - Lots of different native fashion. Their buy native list: http://www.beyondbuckskin.com/p/buy-native.html?m=1
Hereās some more that are some of my faves!
John Isaiah Pepion (Instagram link)- Blackfeet contemporary ledger artist who also has earrings, phone cases, and blankets on his site which is linked on his IG bio. My fave t-shirt is from one of his pieces back when he was first testing out merch and he ran some off. Iām still crossing my fingers and trying not to hit him up like āthis would be dope on a shitā every time he posts a new piece
The Chiefās Daughter (Instagram link) - Karli Crow Shoe a Pikanii/Blackfoot/Nez Perce designer who focuses mainly on beadwork; she does a ton of custom works and is influenced heavily by Niitsitapi culture for sellable work
Bunky Echo-Hawk (Instagram link) - Pawnee/Yakima visual artist and visual performer. Youāve probably seen his work floating around Cyber NDN Country even if youāve never heard of him; heās the one who painted Yoda as a Pawnee that one time years and ages ago. He sells prints and stickers on his website where thereās a link in his IG bio; heās pretty popular but Imma always feel like everybody needs to know Bunkyās work
Tumblrās own resident Bear But Not Really That Kind, @baapi-makwa whoās Insta link is here. An Ojibwe artist working almost exclusively with ink and pens, thereās a link to his Patreon in his bio as well
Kiamichi who is on and off tumblr as @mahtheyzhawey and can be found on Instagram here and is an amazing beadwork artist from the Ponka and Chahta Nations. She made my sweet ass piece with the big ol coyote medallion got me lookin like my cousin on Tribal Council and shit
The Cauldron & The Crown (Instagram link with a link to the shop in the bio) - BlackNDN Tsalagi jewelry maker whomst is on here as well but tbh I can only remember their personal blog and not their arty blog which is my fault but to keep it a hunnid, @crouchingtiger-hiddennegro is funny as hell and I have no room in my heart for anything else
Needle Knot And Thread (Instagram link) - Mayās a textile artist from the Tsalagi Nation and makes such dope lil embroidery samples, earrings, patches, and quilt squares n stuff! Thereās a link to an etsy shop in the bio
Ali Watson (Instagram link) - an Oglala Lakota jewelry maker whoās also a cool person! My fave pair of earrings was made by Ali! The turquoise ones with the dentalium drops; thereās a link to a main website in the bio
Panda Moon (Instagram link) - Yāall remember that dope beaded moon pin I got not too long ago with the little bat dangle? The homie Jennifer made it! Sheās Southern Cheyenne and beads jewelry and pins. She could REALLY use the capital right now as sheās in a financially dire situation having recently escaped a horrible situation. If you donāt want to buy anything from her which, why wouldnāt you but thatās none of my business; thereās a link to her GoFundMe on her bio too!
Project 562 (Instagram link) - Matika Wilbur from Swinomish and Tulalip Nations. Now, sheās a photographer so this isnāt strictly the kind of art that weāre discussing BUT I feel itās super important to include her because Project 562 is about photographing Indigenous People BY an Indigenous Person FROM an Indigenous perspective. Itās about reclaiming imagery, narrative, direction, and power that was written for us by the Olde Timey white ethnographers like Edward S Curtis
I have DEFINITELY forgotten people on this list and if any of yāall who know I fuck witcha the long way come across this and donāt see yourself on here, know that I am sorry, that was unintentional I can only blame it on the fact that Iām tired as hell and I got the Brain Rot at the best of times
since i havenāt seen this floating around tumblr i figured iād post it!! the link on the tweet is broken but this one works too
and as a reminder to the lovely gringos who follow me

art by the wonderful @franshookie-art (DO NOT REPOST this image without their specific permission. check out more of their art on twitter.)
hi, all.. i know that a lot of our focus is on the BlackLivesMatter movement atm (which is wonderful and shouldāve happened a long time ago), and i hate to distract you from that, but thereās something horrible happening in my country, the Philippines (yes, the one being lead by the so-called Filipino version of Donald Trump), right now.
our national government has passed a bill thatāll essentially take away our constitutional rights to freedom of speech and fair trial. itās called the Anti-Terrorism Bill, but weāve dubbed it Terror Bill. hereās a summary of what it entails:
if you want to read the actual bill in its entirety, hereās a link to the official Senate of the Philippines website, where you can download a pdf copy. iād like you to keep in mind the political climate in our country, though, and just how rampant corruption and police brutality are here.
it has already been passed by the Senate; all it needs is the House of Representativesā approval, and it will be enforced. if you want to help stop this from happening, here are a few ways:
sign and share this petition. weāre so close to 300,000 signatures!!!
send e-mails to the Office of the President and the Senate. thereās an e-mail protest currently going on. i have qualms about copy-pasting the message, but ultimately, this method is a lot more effective than petitions:
these posters were made and posted by @tentenyukki on twitter.
educate yourself about the bill and how it will affect us when itās approved. here are some news articles, editorials, and thought pieces to get you started:
š govāt endorsing/defending the bill: 1, 2, 3, 4
š reactions to the billās passing: 1, 2, 3, 4, 5
spread the word. on social media, our tags are #JunkTerrorBill and #JunkTerrorBillNow, but donāt stop there; tell your friends and family. please. people need to know this is happening.
your help could save the lives of millions of Filipinos, and weād really, really appreciate it. i donāt usually ask for much, but when it comes to urgent issues like this, i canāt stay silent. unlike with BLM, i can speak my truth about this because i know personally what itās like to be a Filipino citizen and to live in the Philippines. i hope itās heard, and we keep an ounce of what little dignity we have as aĀ āsovereignā country and rights as a āsovereignā people.
some of you might unfollow or get mad because this isnāt strictly studyblr content, but itās not about aesthetic right now. i need your help. we need to hurry.
thank you for taking time to read! letās uphold human rights together. #JunkTerrorBillNow!
