Hi I'd like to have a nice compelling discussion with you about your previous post. Well in my opinion, I ship makoharu over rinharu because makoharu seems like more of a sweet tender relationship while rinharu would be more about tension and sex. Makoto and Haru have been together since birth and have such a connection that makes you wonder, Are they really just friends? They can read eachother, They never fight, And they've recently made up a future together in Tokyo. That's my reason, You?
I’m not really anti-MakoHaru, but more pro- SouMako and RinHaru. But that’s beside the point. Makoto and Haru have been together since birth and that’s one of the reasons I personally find it hard to ship them. That kind of connection just reminds me of how all the guys in my school last year acted together (small christian school, 10 guys graduated last year and they all acted very very very gay, but they are all very very very straight). It just gives me more of a bromance feel than anything.
Don’t get me wrong, I adore Makoto and I’m not going to ignore the fact that obviously he cares about Haru. Of course he does. But I don’t see that as anything more than them being best friends for so long. They did have a fight though, in Eternal Summer, when Makoto was talking about Haru finding a dream and Haru got mad because he thought they went over this, he doesn’t have a dream and Makoto won’t “stop sticking [his] nose in everyone else’s business.” I think the reason they don’t really fight that much is because Makoto babies him. He doesn’t push him like Rin does, and the one time Mako does push him, he can’t handle the response he gets. Granted Rin and Haru do fight a lot more, Rin says in Eternal Summer that he and Sousuke fight all the time, but they’re still best friends. It’s not unusual to fight with someone you’re close with. Typically, people bicker in a relationship, platonic or romantic. Humans just like to argue apparently. However, after Rin and Haru got their friendship patched up, they get along really well. Have you heard the Drama CD they do together?
As for the future they made up together in Tokyo, the narrator even says they don’t see each other much because of A) how big Tokyo is and B) the fact they both have very separate lives. Yes, they still see each other every now and then, but Haru didn’t go to Tokyo for Makoto. Granted, Makoto going there probably gave him a calmer state of mind knowing that he’s not going somewhere so big all alone. He’s going to swim because he finally found his dream.
What is his dream? How did he find it? Rin.
Rin is the reason Haru found his dream, to swim on an International level in that huge stadium he saw in Australia. With Rin. Director Utsumi says that Haru’s newfound dream isn’t one he could have found for himself, or chosen by himself. [x]
Now, you said RinHaru would center around tension and sex. I have to say that there is more in that relationship than tension and if they were in a relationship, it would be more than sex. Rin genuinely cares about Haru. I’m not discrediting Mako’s admiration and love for Haru, but Rin was so afraid of Haru not finding a dream, he dragged him halfway across the world to help him find one. When Haru returns and he’s talking to his friends from Iwatobi, he says, “I couldn’t believe a dream was something you could find just by looking, but then Rin took me with him and showed me all these different sights, and then I found it.” Australia, for Rin, was filled with memories, both good and bad, and he shared that with Haru. During their visit, they both opened up some and cleared the air for the final time. Rin apologizes for pushing his emotions on Haru and ignoring how he felt
Rin says, at the stadium, “From the moment we met, my world has kept expanding. This great big world that goes on forever…” Director Utsumi says that “Australia is a very important place to Rin, and that’s exactly why he wanted Haruka to see, “Look at this world waiting out there!” If he’d just wanted Haruka to see a pool where international tournaments are held, Rin could have taken him straight to the pool and been done with it—but he wanted Haruka to feel, with his own skin, just how wide the world was. Of course, it was up to Haruka himself to decide how to react to that once he understood it.” [x]
Going way back to the first episodes, you’ll notice that Haru had quit swimming competitively. He’s reluctant to start swimming in the club with Makoto and Nagisa again. Why? Because he had quit swimming when he thought he had hurt Rin after he returned from Australia for Christmas the first time he left. I think that scene is really important, because you can see cold, isolated Haru being broken and deflated with Rin’s tear-filled words, “I quit, I’m never swimming again!” Haru quit something he literally lived for, breathed for, just because he thought he hurt Rin. That’s not something you do for a casual friend. However, later in high school, he asks Makoto, “So, if I join the swim club, I’ll get to swim with Rin again?”
You rarely see Haru showing any emotion, but when he’s with Rin, he always does. The earliest time I recall him showing genuine emotion was when Rin was pressuring him to swim the relay with him, Makoto, and Nagisa, and Haru lashed out and told him that he only swam free. When little Rin first left for Australia and came back, bumping into Haru, you can see that little Haru is pretty upset because Rin didn’t call. Rin didn’t write. And you can tell that Haru is affected by that, or else he wouldn’t have brought it up. In the scene in one of the final episodes in season 1, where Rin is getting out of the pool after one of his races and he falls back into the pool, Haru sees that and you can tell he gets really scared. He’s sitting in the stands, but not for long. He freaks out and is afraid that Rin is going to quit swimming again (which he almost does) and hauls his ass to where Rin is, searching frantically for him to try and calm him down. Haru actually cries in the series, during the fight in the locker room about Haru’s dream.

3. Rin CANONICALLY couldn’t shut up about how Nanase is amazing and everyone around him knew everything about Haru because of that.

5. Rin CANONICALLY wrote an essay about Haru calling him his other shining and dreaming to “ fly” with him aka sharing his future and dreams with him.
6. Rin CANONICALLY wrote a letter to Haru.
7. Rin CANONICALLY owns Haruka’s shoulder.
8. Rin CANONICALLY got embarrassed when his Australian parents asked him if he got a girlfriend in front of Haru.
9. Rin CANONICALLY changed Haru’s world and showed him a sight he’s never seen before.
10. Rin CANONICALLY helped Haru find his dream.
11. Rin CANONICALLY is the one who is always able to stir feelings in Haru’s heart.
12. Haru CANONICALLY thanked Rin twice for saving his life and for helping him find his dream.
13. Haru CANONICALLY started running just because Rin runs.
14. Haru CANONICALLY got bitter and upset when Rin told him he’s leaving to Australia.
15. Haru CANONICALLY had hallucinations of Rin when he raced Sousuke.
16. Haru CANONICALLY was waiting Rin’s call from Australia.
17. Haru CANONICALLY was so happy when Rin came back from Australia from the first time, that he couldn’t even talk.
18. Haru CANONICALLY quit competitive swimming for years because he thought he hurt Rin.
19. Haru CANONICALLY stared at Rin’s photo and regimen written by him for an awkwardly long time.
20. Haru CANONICALLY said he wants to swim with Rin ( I want to swim with Rin and as long as I keep swimming I’ll meet Rin, right?).
21. Haru CANONICALLY had a heart attack thinking Rin might have a gf.
22. Haru CANONICALLY expanded Rin’s world and showed him a sight he’s never seen before.
23. Rin and Haru CANONICALLY saved each other.
24. Rin and Haru CANONICALLY changed each other worlds.
25. Rin and Haru CANONICALLY fire each other up, make each other interested, excite each other.
26. Rin and Haru CANONICALLY want to carry each other bridal style.

28. Rin and Haru CANONICALLY want to swim and be together forever.
