In honor of @mistycatt and her wonderful art on my dash waking up my ever-present Padawan Obi-Wan hyperfixation, I thought I'd share a couple of my favorite fic recs with the Pada-Wan nation that I'm glad to have discovered still exists: All are gen (no pairings) and portray Qui-Gon as a good, if flawed, person. Most are AO3 links, a couple are FF.net or tumblr (trying to get fics from a variety of years and authors in for the newbies!) I'm a sucker for some good whump and hurt/comfort, so a number of these may contain violence, etc.; check the tags!

Perceptions by @luvvewan | 7.5 k words | Rating: G | A captured Obi-Wan begins to hallucinate. Qui-Gon looks after him. Dooku rescues them both. Beautiful, gut-wrenching Disaster Lineage feels to go around.

Devotions by outpastthemoat | 17 k words | Rating: G | A series of snapshots centering around lightsabers. Poetry and dance intertwined in fic form. One of the first fics I fell completely and utterly in love with.

Conversations with Flora by @eirianerisdar | Obi-Wan & Qui-Gon | 1k words | Rating: Unrated but probably G | An injured Master carries his injured Padawan to safety. The local plant life hears fragments of their story along the way.

And the Moments In Between by @firondoiel | 2k words | Rating T | During the mission to Naboo, Obi-Wan sustains an injury, and Qui-Gon pauses to check on him amidst the chaos. Obi-Wan insists he is fine. He even manages not to collapse...for a while.

Sunlight & Seashells (both are broken) by orphan account | 1.7 k words | Rating G | Obi-Wan begins his apprenticeship wondering what affection from his Master would look like. Over the course of many years, he finds many answers. The last line of this lives in my mind for all eternity.

The Unchosen by DiceMonkey | 3k words | Rating G | A different take on a first meeting, and an ode to Qui-Gon, Obi-Wan, the Jedi, and the Temple.

Through Me (The Flood) by ithilielthechosenone | 10k words | Rating T | Piece by piece and step by step, Qui-Gon and Obi-Wan overcome their respective pasts and step together into the future. A delightful blend of canon and Jedi Apprentice legends, full to the brim with emotion.

Heatstroke by ABitWeird | 3k words | Rating: Unrated but probably G | Obi-Wan's bravery saves many lives--and earns him a case of heatstroke on one of the Republic's coldest planets.

Growing Pains by ruthbaulding (on FF.net) | 155 k words | Rating T | A series of vignettes set during Obi-Wan's apprenticeship. Slightly AU. Incredibly beautiful. I admittedly haven't read them all yet--I have been savoring it, slowly, and read the next chapter whenever I need more of these two in my life.

And I can wholeheartedly say that every single one of these writers is incredibly talented, and many of them have TONS more brilliant fic than what I have listed here, so please do go digging through their other fic, reading whatever appeals to you, and leaving gushing comments on everything they write.

“No, Master, I need more time.”

Qui-Gon sighed, leaning back to rest his head against the wall of his cell. “Obi-Wan, the rebels are moving to attack at dawn. You have no more time for negotiations, now is the time to admit defeat and leave, Padawan.”

For a moment, Qui-Gon caught the impression of deathly stillness even through their bond, which he’d kept rather heavily shielded. “Master, where are you? Are you hurt?” 

Obi-Wan’s voice held a slow and dangerous edge to it, which almost made Qui-Gon’s lips twitch upward in a fond smile. 

“Not seriously,” he said, stretching out and crossing his legs on the floor in front of him. “I’m in one of their cell blocks, but I can assure you, Padawan, I’m only staying as long as is necessary to keep up a general appearance of harmlessness. If you insist on dallying, however, rest assured I will walk out of here, take the shuttle, fly it into the bloody courtyard, and haul you out of there myself.”

“Understood, Master. Leaving now.”

But of course, his Padawan would park their shuttle in the middle of the rebel-held fort the next morning, Qui-Gon found himself thinking as he socked an unfortunate guard in the jaw on his way out.

For that first sentence fic thing (gen please): Obi-Wan smiled, contemplating ten ways to end this peacefully, and a dozen more *not* so peacefully.

Obi-Wan found himself surrounded by a group of old, hide-bound, self-absorbed, iron-fisted ‘civil servants’ who couldn’t even see that their greed was choking the economy and destroying the lower classes that supported their lavish lifestyles. They didn’t even see fit acknowledge the demands of the rebels currently occupying a fully equipped fortress situated mere klicks away. 

The fortress where his Master was currently attempting to prevent an imminent attack. Obi-Wan wasn’t certain he wished their situations had been reversed. 

He only hoped his Master would be able to placate—or at least delay—the rebels until he could get these fools to consider even listening to their demands.

Everyone’s favorite Mon Calamarian angel baby Bant! One of my number one Star Wars blorbos who DOES NOT get enough recognition. I have so many ideas and headcanons about her and how it was never explicitly said she died during order 66.

I took major inspiration from @blueberry-ry and motivation from my sister @thats-ee for her padawan braid, and it was so much fun!!
