OOC - Temporary Hiatus
//Hello all,
I’ve recently moved cross-country (Wisconsin to Utah), and I’ve got a lot to do, so it’ll be some time before I’ll be able to come back and RP with you all.
Therefore, I’m going on a temporary hiatus until I get things caught up. I was going to delete, but I don’t have the heart to abandon my Ryder and lose the chance to RP with all of you wonderful people. :-)

The gravity of the situation was still sinking in for Scott Ryder. It had all started with rumors, tall tales of a Reaper spotted within the Andromeda galaxy. The story was spreading far and wide enough to get the Andromeda Initiative members nervous and to keep the Nexus on high alert.
When it finally arrived, and from it emerged Commander Shepard, everyone was stunned. She’d become a legend, defending the Citadel against a Reaper attack, then wiping out the threat of the Collectors. She was a damned hero...and now she was HERE, NOW, standing before the Pathfinder.
“Commander Shepard, at the expense of a touch of hero-worship, I have to say I’m honored to see you here. I think you can tell by now we’re all a bit surprised.”

“These puzzles give me a headache,” Drack groaned as Scott attempted to decipher another Remnant vault code.
“I don’t know why you’re complaining,” Ryder shook his head, looking back at his Krogan squadmate. “I’m the one having to figure them out.”
“Naturally. You’re the Pathfinder; that’s your thing. I shoot and beat up bad guys; that’s my thing.”
“Pathfinder,” SAM broke in urgently, “the Nomad’s sensors indicate another life form is approaching. It is identified as Geth.”
“Geth?!?” Ryder repeated. “Are you sure?”
“Affirmative, Pathfinder. It is closing fast.”
“Stay sharp, guys!” Ryder said, backing away from the Remnant control panel and scanning his perimeter.
“First the Kett and the Remnant...now the Geth. We just can’t catch a break,” Liam lamented.
When Scott turned again, he spotted the Geth perched just above them on a pylon, looking down on them. Liam raised his weapon but Scott stopped him short.
“Wait!” Ryder shouted. “I think we’ve had enough “shooting first and asking questions later”.” He turned back to face the Geth and said, “I’m Scott Ryder of the Alliance vessel Tempest. This is my team, Nakmor Drack and Liam Kosta. We won’t attack if you don’t.”
“Sure hopes it understands ya, or this is gonna get ugly real fast,” Drack commented.
The Pathfinder Ryder

Teshan smiled at the Krogan. Her head tilting as her eyes took him in. All of him. Then they looked to Ryder and the smile died. “There’s a garbled comm signal. Out on Havaral. Can’t make out much but it’s a distress signal. I’m not a tech person and I can’t waste resistance time or resources on it…so.. Look into it for me? Maybe then we’ll talk seriously.” Teshan quickly sent the nav point to Ryder and glanced back to the krogan.
“The sooner you get back to me the better.” Teshan said to the pathfinder, crossing her arms across her chest. “Oh.. while you’re at it could you pick me up a left handed mug?”
Drack burst out laughing. “HAHAHA! I got that!”
Scott and Cora both turned to look at their squadmate. Then Scott turned back to Teshan, his voice confident and cool as he said, “Leave a light on for us. We’ll be back soon.”
He turned away, leading Drack and Cora away. “Let’s get into the Nomad and get this done, guys.”
Drack was still chuckling. “Left-handed mug! Hehehe...that was good.”
LATER...
The Nomad roared in, stopping just outside the settlement’s limits. It looked a bit worse for wear, but when the doors opened and out came several Angaran researchers, followed by Ryder and his team, it was abundantly clear they’d followed through on Teshan’s request.
Ryder spotted the Angaran female and approached, a hand behind his back. He allowed himself a smirk of pride. After facing the Remnant once again and coming out alive, he felt he’d earned it.
He brought out his hidden left hand, a mug firmly in its grip. “Use it in good health, as we say.”
Drack snickered, earning a glance from Cora.
“What? It was funny,” he argued.

Odette seemed, at first, to be far too engrossed in the view to respond. But when he did make the offer, her head whipped around, blue eyes wide. The chance to travel aboard the Tempest, be part of a multicultural crew, have the opportunity to integrate newcomers to the crew from other cultures they might meet?
It was an opportunity that seemed almost too good to be true. Her face lit up, a flush spreading across her cheeks. She hadn’t the foggiest clue how to respond at first, but after letting out something of a flabbergasted little squeak, she nodded her head emphatically.
“I would be delighted to take on such an opportunity. My family is all in security; they have never understood my affinity… yes, I would most definitely love to join your crew!”
Ryder couldn’t help but chuckle and smile in delight at Odette’s enthusiastic response. It was exactly what he’d hoped for. The Pathfinder Team needed people as energetic as her to take on the tasks that awaited them.
“Well, then...welcome aboard!” Scott said, reaching out and shaking Odette’s hand. “You’ll probably want to grab your gear. If Gil’s team are still on track with their repairs and upgrades, we’ll be leaving within two hours. I’ll make sure we get you a bunk, and I’ll also update the crew’s roster before updating the Nexus.”

For every wave of Kett Scott Ryder and his team were taking down, it seemed that two more were taking its place. The Pathfinder and his companions were getting tired and losing ground.
“Still can’t get a signal through to the Tempest! The Kett must be scrambling our comms!” Liam shouted.
“Even if they came for us they’d end up getting shot at! We’d be lucky to make it back on board!” Cora replied.
“Okay, new rule: no bad news while we’re under attack!” Ryder swapped out his AR for a pistol, going for as many one-shot kills as his aim could allow.
To his surprise, the current wave of Kett began to turn as if to notice someone flanking them. Sure enough, Ryder and his team noticed a commotion of shouts and then heavy poundings that nearly shook the ground around them.
“What the hell!?” Liam said, stunned and puzzled.
Scott’s eyes caught sight of an Asari tougher than any he’d ever seen. In her hand was a Krogan war hammer, dripping with Kett blood.
“I think things are beginning to look up,” Scott said, well and truly impressed by the show of force.

Sara laughed. “Nope, there’s still some planets left to colonize. I’ve saved some for you, don’t worry. I’m so glad you’re awake.” She hugged Scott gently.
Scott rested his head on Sara’s shoulder, letting out a sigh of relief. He’d felt trapped in a dreamless sleep surrounded by a non-functional body. To have real contact with someone again was profoundly comforting.
“Me too, Sara. Me too.” He slowly pulled back from the embrace. He suddenly felt energized to get up and move around. He’d spent more than enough time laying prone. “Am I cleared to get out of here? We have new homeworlds to find, after all.”

Ryder frowned. Did this angaran know something he didn’t? “I wouldn’t give you my word if I couldn’t back it up, and I can’t think of what I might’ve done to betray you. We want to maintain peaceful relations with the angarans, for the sake of both our species.” He looked to Cora and Drack, his squadmates, then back at the angaran. “I’d like a chance to prove that to you.”
A sweet sounding laughter left her lips as she shook her head. “Yes. Of course you would. Well. I don’t need anything right now so I’m not sure how you plan on proving yourself. Should I make up a fool’s errand for you? To give you some purpose?” Her tone was sharp and her eyes rolled before glancing to his companions. Blue eyes lingering on the bigger one before focusing back on the Pathfinder human.
He’d tried being diplomatic and friendly, but Ryder could see he was getting nowhere with the angaran female. She was intent on hating and distrusting him and his crew. However, Scott was as stubborn as his father at times, and wasn’t about to back down or lash out.
“I don’t know what you think I’ve done to earn your distrust, but I’m intent on proving you wrong. So, if you’ve got something for us, bring it on. We’ll handle it.”
“Can’t wait to hear her suggestion, considering how warm and fuzzy she’s been so far,” Drack commented.

The young woman’s eyes widened as she gazed at the ship before her lips curled up in a brilliant smile. She had seen a number of ships in the promotional videos, of course, and it wasn’t as if she hadn’t been on her fair share before even joining her family in cryo…
But this one was a sight to behold. Stepping forward to get a better look, she let her bright blue eyes sweep over the ship’s expanse, clearly quite taken by the sight of it.
She wasn’t an engineer. She was a cultural ambassador of sorts. But this? This was the sort of thing someone in her position dreamed of. The opportunity to travel the galaxy, experience new worlds, meet new people…
“It is a beautiful ship. I do not think I have ever seen its equal, if I am being quite honest.”
Scott beamed with pride as he spoke. “She may not have the armor and guns of an Alliance frigate, but she’s stealthy and quick, and equipped with the latest tech to help us get the job done out there.”
He led Odette up the ramp into the ship’s cargo hold, where dock crews were loading supplies. “But she still wouldn’t make it out of the docking bay without a good crew...and I’d like you to consider being a part of that crew, Odette.” He smiled and added, “I’ve done some homework while you were getting cleared by Dr. Lexi. Your skills as a cultural ambassador will be valuable as we encounter new races. We need to make sure we’re sending the right message to the native inhabitants, and I think you’re qualified to help make that happen.”
He raised a curious eyebrow and asked, “So...what do you say? If you don’t want to, or have another assignment you’d rather focus on, I won’t keep you from it, and you won’t offend me for turning the offer down.”

It felt wrong, Scott out there without her having his back. They’d always been there for each other and the fact that lately that hadn’t been the case tore her up. But it would be fine now that she could go. She already had her gear packed, ready for the day she’d be allowed to go with her brother, she handed some of it off to him.
She laughed “I was thinking more like Doofus? I can add a Sir in front if you really want,” she teased. “And I’ll be sure to tell your crew all your greatest hits embarrassment wise.”
“I’m surprised you haven’t already,” Ryder remarked with a playful smirk. “But that’s alright; I’m sure the crew would love to hear some of my stories about you too.” To emphasize his point he turned and actually stuck his tongue out at his sister. Scott enjoyed moments like these, when they were able to relax and let their playfulness roam free.
He laughed and grabbed the last of Sara’s bags. “C’mon, dork...we’ve got a galaxy to explore.”

Teshan scoffed. “Yes. Earn our trust so you can betray it.” Setting the object in her hand down she turned to face him and found herself having to tilt her head a bit more than she expected. Damn aliens and their being tall.
“Enemies can only attack. A ‘friend’ can betray. Betrayal is always worse.” Teshan shifted her weight back, crossing her arms in front of her. “Tell yourself, and them-” She glanced to the crowd around her.” -whatever you want. I won’t be betrayed by aliens. I know better than to trust you. You give us nothing but your word, empty promises.”
Ryder frowned. Did this angaran know something he didn’t? “I wouldn’t give you my word if I couldn’t back it up, and I can’t think of what I might’ve done to betray you. @pathfinderisms “Scott? Scott, are you awake? Lexi said you’re finally awake. I’ve been so worried about you.” Sara sat beside the pod that her twin was in and hoped that he was able to respond.
For several seconds, Scott had to muster all of his strength just to force his eyes open. He felt sluggish, as if every move was a herculean effort. But his body and mind seemed to catch up to one another, and he was sitting up, eyes blinking and shifting to look at his sister.
“Hey, sis,” Ryder said groggily. “Sure hope you didn’t colonize Andromeda without me.”

Sara grinned brightly “Seriously? As if it even needs to be said that I’m in.” She’d been stir crazy, all she was ever told to do lately was ‘get some sleep’ as if she hadn’t had enough of that. And yes maybe she wasn’t at top form after everything but she was well enough to be able to be with her brother, even if she had to stay on the ship. Anything was better than being stuck here. “Don’t expect me to at any point call you boss though,” she teased.
Scott let out a chuckle. “Had a feeling you would be. I’ll help you get your gear on board.”
With Sara awake, at his side, and excited about the work ahead, Ryder felt a knot of tension within him slowly undo itself. He’d been terribly worried about her, especially after their father had died. She was all he had left to call “family”, and beyond that, she was his best friend.
“Boss? Nah,” Scott said with a shake of his head. “‘Emperor’ might work, though. ‘Your Majesty’, maybe...?”

‘ What do you even mean with - where we are going ? ` Eyes rolled back in disbelief, it was already hard enough to talk while the pod was shaking around them, no surprise with the fire spraying storm surrounding their ship. ‘ It is not my fault the signal is coming from inside a volcano ? And we should land on stable ground. Hopefully. `

“I think you and I have very different definitions for the word “stable,” Ryder pointed out as the pod shook violently. He could feel the heat of the fiery bursts surrounding the pod.
“So, while we’re all getting baked like potatoes in here, another question: even if we land on something not resembling lava, how do we get out of here safely?”

“Hey little brother,” Sara said, sitting up “Please tell me you’re here to pull some of that pathfinder rank power and get me on duty gain? I’m going insane on the sidelines.”
Scott covered his relief and happiness to see Sara awake and healthy again with a smirk as he replied, “Well, Doc Carlyle put up a good fight, but in the end, seems the old Ryder charm won the day. As long as you’re feeling able, I could really use you on the Tempest.”
