The Oncoming Storm || Tiki & Soren
"I apologize…" Tiki could tell she was being somewhat insulted, but she honestly wasn’t phased by it. Sure, she wasn’t used to it. That didn’t mean she had to lay down and cry. "My lineage has that effect on me…and on the people around me. If I could decrease the intensity, I would, but that would prove to be more difficult than the result would be satisfying."
She folded her hands together and swung her legs back and forth. “I do know many of them…We hail from the same area after all.” Tiki had seen their faces before and perhaps traded a few words. Other than that, she supposed she knew nothing. “I truly don’t mean to judge. That wasn’t what I meant at all. I only wanted to know more about you. If you’d rather me be quiet, that’s fine.”
Taking that to heart, she went back to her drink. Maybe she would brave the storm after all. It seemed that she was causing more trouble than anything. Then again, it did seem to follow her.
For a moment, Soren considered drinking the hot cocoa seated untouched on the table. His skin felt damp and not cold, but his insides were numb and frozen. He realized that he'd been stung - allowed himself to be stung by something that only existed inside his head.
Another lapse of silence passed seemingly announcing Soren's respond. The innkeeper arrived at their table with two chocolate brown blankets, heavy and warm with sheep wool. Like the cocoa, Soren ignored the blanket folded on the table. The innkeeper didn't think too much of his behaviour. To him, he was just some young lad who was his older sister's problem. So the innkeeper handed the smile for two people to Tiki before leaving and moving on.
All the while, Soren was thinking. He wanted to leave, leave as he'd always wanted from the start. But he kept insisting to himself to stay. He was stubborn and wanted to fight his place on where he should be and not run away from the things that made him feel unpleasant.
He urged himself to speak.
"You're so timid," Soren remarked, detaching once more any emotion from his voice. The aloofness sounded like it was teasing. "I am curious as well, so we could benefit equally from this. We might as well make the most of the situation, don't you think? if you find it an agreeable prospect, I will answer your question and then you will answer mine."
