The Dormant God
This was my entry for the Atomhawk Art Competition 2023. The brief was "Under Strange Suns" and I figured that was the perfect chance to make a cosmic eldritch entity. I had the idea of making the entity the strange sun itself while it was the host to numerous planetary systems. It's using a sun as a yolk sac, the asteroids mimic eggshells and holds a fetal position all to indicate that it has yet to awaken. It definitely delves into the realm of cosmic horror if you think about how the people on the planets may never see it in its entirety, may see parts of its limbs as part of their sky and what happens when the god finally awakens. But space has always been inherently horrifying.
I learned a lot by making this and it pushed my skills and creativity as well as being a great deal of fun (if a cosmic entity isn't fun to make with an underlying sense of dread, you're probably doing something wrong) so I plan on entering next year as well.
