- What do I study at school?

I am currently finishing up my Professional Studies degree at West Chester University with minors in Youth Empowerment and Urban Culture, and Women's and Gender Studies. Working with young people is important to me because I enjoy working alongside future leaders, creators, and world changers.

Five FUN facts about myself:

1. I have an adorable new puppy named Milo (pictured above). He is a three month old Golden Doodle.

2. My favorite color is light yellow. I like anything bright and cheery so yellow covers all of the bases for me.

3. I try to challenge myself as often as possible, right now I am taking a tap dancing class as a way of staying active and trying something new!

4. My favorite TV show is Law and Order: SVU. Olivia Benson is such a powerful character and the episodes always keep me guessing. I’ve never missed an episode.

5. My favorite place that I’ve ever been was New Orleans, Louisiana. I went to help with a church that had been moved into an abandoned RiteAid after hurricane Katrina. We created a library, painted the walls and created space for an after school program for young people in the community of the Ninth Ward. New Orleans is resilient, bright and always fun. I hope to go back as soon as possible!

I’m excited to work with the students at PhillyCAM and want to learn more about everyone’s goals and personalities. I hope to learn from the students about media production and their ideas for future productions.

Hey everyone my name Is Dominic Long . You can call me Dom. I’m 24, from West Philadelphia, Pa. Also I’m a senior student at West Chester University. With a major in health science and a Minor in Youth Empowerment and Urban studies. I’m graduating in the fall and after that I plan to either go back to school and get my masters in Guidance Counseling or pursue another endeavor. Some facts are I love different genres of music , I am a memeber if Omega Psi Phi Fraternity Inc., a Movie enthusiast and I like dogs. 🕺🏾

Majoring in Film and Media Arts with a Concentration in Screenwriting (a mouthful, I know)

-What excites you about working with the youth media program?

Without the youth media programs that I was a part of growing up I wouldn’t have discovered how much joy media production gives me. Whenever I meet other people who also did youth programs they have the same feelings that I do. Now that I’m old enough where I can be a mentor instead of a participant, I really want to take advantage of it and help other youth.

-What's a goal you have for advancing personally while interning at PhillyCAM?

While at PhillyCAM, I want to become more organized and gain more production skills in the tv studios. I also want to look more into my facilitation skills and push myself to change it up.

- What's one way you practice self-care?

On days where I have nothing planned, I will cook a huge dinner for myself and have a movie marathon. The last one I did I made ribs and caught up on shows since there was no movies I wanted to watch.

-When was the first time you felt represented in the media?

While my parents aren’t strict, they did have one extremely specific rule: I wasn’t allowed to watch, listen, or consume any media that didn’t have at least one person of color in it. As a result I’ve always felt represented in media. It wasn’t until middle school that I realized every person of color didn’t have that experience as well. So the moment I first realized representation was important and needed was in 6th grade when I watched School Daze in an after school program. It was the first time I ever saw a movie that focused on the black college experience and it was stunning. That movie single handedly convinced me to go to college.

-Pass on some words of wisdom you've learned so far.
