My writing has been and always will stay 100% non-AI.

Since I have a soft spot for the eldritch as well as body horror, my stories tend to contain elements of that nature. And oh, there's gay™. Lots of it.

Besides horror and romance, my speculative fiction WIPs include historical, dark fantasy, high fantasy, and sci-fi. Monsters are my favorite!

I see so many arguments over what is and isn't "good queer representation" that really just boil down to "y'all are actually arguing over matters of taste and genre preference, which is incredibly subjective and personal."

Worldbuilding where being queer is normalized and queerphobia has no impact on the plot? THAT'S FINE. Worldbuilding that includes queerphobia and tackles the effects of it as part of the story? THAT'S ALSO FINE.

Low-stakes queer romcom where the characters are fluffy and cute? THAT'S COOL. Messy queer drama with toxic people who fuck each other over and clash repeatedly? THAT'S ALSO COOL.

Stories that center the characters' queerness, show a trans character's transition, and are about the queerness as much as the rest of the plot? AWESOME. Stories where the characters' queerness isn't treated as a big deal, and have trans characters whose transition happened before the story entirely? ALSO AWESOME.

You may PREFER one thing or another, but it is actually good to have all these things. It's about variety. It's about queer characters being allowed to exist without censorship. It's about queer artists getting to make things without being told we're a "niche issue" or "adult content." It's about having as many goddamn cakes as the bakery can produce.

At the end of the day, I'd prefer a media landscape with fifty pieces of problematic queer representation over a media landscape with one single piece of queer representation that's trying (and usually failing) to be 100% perfect for everything and everyone.

ANOTHER thing i will say about self-pub/indie media of all kinds is that people are always quick to warn you that to find the good stuff you must first endure a lot of bad stuff you don't enjoy. that qualifier like "oh you will read nine bad things to find one kind of good thing but you must persist". but i don't know what corporate media people are enjoying that has a better hit rate than that. there's corporate media that cost millions to make that's so bad people start weird conspiracies about it. "most of it sucks if you have taste" is not a problem exclusive to self-pub. some of the highest grossing movies of 2025 were "we took that thing you liked and made it live action for some reason". if you clicked a link to a free thing one time and you thought the art was ugly or the acting was bad or it was full of typos i simply cannot bring myself to care about your need to warn people that It Could Happen To Them.

everyone write more mech horror right now, I want to hear about how your pilot is surgically fused to the inside of the mech, with tubes moving blood from its body to the strange biomechanical heart of the machine as it twitches in pain - we need more fun stuff like that
