[Caption: A realistic digital painting/study of Laverne Cox. Portrait is from the chest up in three-quarter profile. Laverne is sitting serenely, dressed in a plush white bath robe. Her long aquamarine hair is pulled back into a smooth loose knot at her nape. She’s wearing colorful makeup—bright aquamarine eyeshadow with blue winged eyeliner, pink blush, and wine lips. The background is a gradient from sea green to warm brown.]
Laurence Philomène is challenging the lack of non-binary representation by photographing her friends as their ideal selves, set against her vivid fantasy backdrops.

I love how basically all gays did the same thing where we realize we like someone of the same gender and just go “yeah we’re not gonna think about that. I’ll just deal with that later” like name another community that is so universally filled with procrastinators
biggest heartbreak was like I always wanted to be a detective & solve murders but then I found out that that meant I would have to join the p*lice
Sometimes after a particularly hard meal, I remember someone said once that you don’t need to stress over your food. Your body knows what to do, it will handle everything for you and put everything where it needs to go and it will be okay. Sometimes it takes a little longer to take care of everything and that’s okay. Thinking about that really helps me through some shit.
i swear to god gnc trans women are some of the most hated, alienated people on the planet. like even in lgbt spaces we’re expected to be pretty and conform to what everybody expects of us, and honestly fuck that
trans women who are butch lesbians deserve to be treated as the women they are, trans women who dont use she/her deserve to be treated as the women they are, trans women who do not comform deserve better. we deserve better.
fuck cis lgb people, trans men and nonbinary people who turn the other way when they see transmisogyny. the lgbt community has failed trans women by not even attempting to do anything about the specific oppression we face. it is not a safespace for us, it can oftentimes be even worse than simply existing out in public.

*white gays who think lgbt rep is the only important thing in the world don’t interact*
I hate cartoon discourse as much as any problematic fire sign woman of color does but I’m really concerned. These cartoon creators have figured out that adding a few main characters of color ups the profits they make. Back when I was a kid, many of the cartoons I watched didn’t really have nonwhite characters, and some had a few amazing nonwhite characters. But I never had to deal with seeing Black or Latinx or Asian characters being killed off, mistreated, and humiliated the way they are in children’s cartoons now. It’s frustrating and upsetting to think that this wave of killing off black women characters and other characters of color has affected children’s media too because it’s so harmful to kids of color. I wasn’t exposed to this racist trope until I became an adult - kids nowadays are seeing it more than ever.
And say what you will, but media can absolutely have adverse effects on child and teen psychosocial and identity development. In fact in the developmental psychology literature and social-cognitive literature, there are multiple theories about how television and media impact identity formation for children and teens.
Imagine watching media meant for you that lures you in with characters who share your racial or cultural background, and then seeing them turned into jokes and then killed off.
I never had to deal with that as a kid, but kids of color have to now, and it’s terrible. Just one of the many adverse consequences of white creators monetizing and profiting off of racial representation.
Don’t add any comments to this post that detract from the point. This post is about racism. If you want to talk about women or the gays do it on your own time.
