There is an American book called "The Time Traveler's Wife", which received a movie adaptation in 2009.
In that book, an adult man who has the power to travel to the past and the future, met the person who would be the future his wife when she was still a child. And even at the time the movie was released, this fact did not generate any controversy.
So, I really don't see why the fact that Sesshomaru met the person who would be his future wife one day when she was still a child received so much criticism and controversy, after all Sesshomaru never lived with Rin much, he traveled together for a few months, but Rin had to get her own food by herself, Rin fished and cooked on her own, the most Sesshomaru did was to save Rin from the monsters that wanted to kill her. And then Sesshomaru left Rin to grow up in a human village, he himself said that she was totally free to decide to follow the future that she wanted and that she had all the time she needed to do so.
He never adopted Rin, he was never paternal to her or as a brother to her. I think some fans prefer the character's headcanons more than the real story shown in the anime / manga Inuyasha.
The biggest argument that I saw the antis using, is that they don't like Sessrin because they preferred Sesshomaru to be with another character.
I don't understand why they think Sesskagu is a better ship, because Kagura is chronologically much younger than Rin. Kagome, Sango and Kagura were also underage girls when they met Sesshomaru. So, according to the logic of the antis, neither Kagome, Sango, Rin or Kagura should be Sesshomaru's love interest.
But, these antis are only against Rin being his love interest.
These antis are very cynical, false and hypocritical.
Sango married and had children when she was still a girl under the age of 16, but no anti has ever complained about it, even though Sango has married an adult, Miroku.
And if the antis are so against an immortal demon with hundreds of years of age marrying a woman when she became an adult, just because he happened to meet her when she was a girl, then why none of the antis are complaining about the couple Koga and Ayame, who also proved to be a canon couple in the episode 15?
Sesshomaru never showed any romantic interest in Rin when she was a child, he always made it clear that Rin was totally free to choose her own destiny and Sesshomaru always made sure that Rin made her own life choices. Rin is the most important and precious person in Sesshomaru's life. Rin is the person Sesshomaru respects most, Rin's happiness and security are the most important thing for him. Sesshomaru would do anything for Rin. Sesshomaru only showed romantic interest in Rin after she grew up, after she became an adult woman.
Koga barely met Ayame and said, "Someday, I'm going to make you my wife", and Ayame was just a kid at that time. Koga didn't even ask if Ayame accepted that.
Yet no one has ever complained about the Koga x Ayame ship.
But the antis all chase and attack in the most horrible and offensive ways who likes the ship Sesshomaru x Rin, invent a lot of lies and baseless slander about the ship Sessrin, even though there is countless proof that the relationship between Rin and Sesshomaru is totally healthy, a relationship based on mutual respect, trust and love.
If you don't like a couple or don't agree with an anime happening, that doesn't give you the right to offend or attack anyone who doesn't have the same opinion as you. The attitude of all the antis since the Hanyo no Yashahime anime was announced has been extremely toxic, horrible and cruel. There is no justification for offending and slandering without the slightest proof of things so hideous and terrible people you don't even know, it is inexcusable to threaten someone with death just because of fictitious relationships, just because of a cartoon.
This current situation at this Fandom is so disturbing.
I'm really really tired of this whole situation.
Rin has always been one of my favorite Inuyasha characters since I was a kid. She is someone who has suffered so much. She lost her entire family, she had to learn to take care of herself alone even though she was just a child, she had no one to take care of her, she had no one to support her or who she could trust. She almost starved to death. Rin suffered constant abuse and aggression in the village where she lived.
I am happy that Rin has met Sesshomaru, someone who loves, respects, values and cares about her so much. Sesshomaru saved Rin, changed her life for the better and he is the reason Rin can be happy again. But, Rin also changed Sesshomaru's life, she always aroused kindness and kindness in Sesshomaru, and Rin is why Sesshomaru has become a better person.
Rin managed to regain everything that was once so painful and unfairly stolen from her. Jaken became a father to her. Kaede became a caregiver and tutor for her. Kohaku, A-Un, Kagome and Sango became friends with her. Rin managed to find the true love of her life, Lord Sesshomaru, and with Sesshomaru, the man she loves so much, Rin had two precious and beautiful daughters, Towa and Setsuna. Rin managed to overcome all the losses and suffering of the past, she built a new family and regained happiness for her life again. And I am very happy and proud of her, Rin has become a beautiful and strong woman.
I trust and have faith in Rin and Sesshomaru, I hope that they will soon find their daughters again and this family can finally have the happy ending that they deserve so much.
