Chapter 3: The Coffee Incident
Taglist: @selina0226
By week three, Bruce had escalated to extremely absurd length
He had called Jason to come in and consult security upgrades to the Eastwing of Wayne Enterprises. The security was perfectly fine. But Jason had a degree in essentially breaking in places, so it was at least plausible enough to pass it casual sniff test.
Jason arrived around ten in the morning, which was earlier than what Bruce and him agreed on him arriving at. You were at your desk but this time you were prepared...or at least you've clearly been preparing mentally. You had a cup of coffee posted on standby like a shield...if that made any sense.
"Morning" Jason graveled while passing by your desk
"Good morning Mr. Todd"
"Jason" he corrected
"Right- sorry" you closed your eyes in defeat "i'm just gonna say good morning and leave it at that"
And that aren't you a genuine smile from him his face went from a 'grumpy ex crime lord' to a surprised 'rough looking guy who was trying hard not to laugh'
"Fair" he said walking to Bruce's office
The security consultation took approximately fifteen minutes to do, during that time Bruce walked Jason through the entire east wing of the building, pointing at cameras, and asking for his opinion on the placement.
"Bruce, they're fine" Jason said a pitching the bridge of his nose
"I don't think the angle at the stairwell is-"
"It's fine. What is this actually about??"
"Nothing, thank you for your expertise"
Jason looked at him with a frowning look that promised 'I will dropkick Damien off of Wayne Tower if you call me in for more bullshit' then he turned around and walked towards the elevator
But then
Oh then
Fate...or more accurately, bruce Wayne's pre-meditative intervention happened
You had gotten up to go use the restroom, and your absence left your coffee shield unprotected.
Once Jason passed his jacket then caught the cup knocking it all over your keyboard. Blue side witnessed it off from his office door. Look up tipped in slow motion it was like a car crash.
Jason moved fast, stupid fast, faster than you normal human being should. He had caught the cup from shattering to the floor but unfortunately he could not save your keyboard from the liquid deaf that seeped into its motherboard.
Friction of his fast movements tipped the little succulent plant off the desk he caught that too. He stood there succulent in one hand and coffee cup in the other.
That was the exact moment you came back to your desk.
You stopped you stared.
Jason are you back.
In his hand he held your plant which he was holding like a lady renaissance in painting and your cup. And on your desk a small puddle of brown liquid fused itself to your keyboard.
"I-" Jason started
"Oh no" you whispered
"I can fix-"
"my keyboard"
"I will buy you a new one"
"My plant-"
"I saved it"
"My coffee"
"I'll clean it up" Bruce facepalm 'damnit Jason, just. Ask. Her. Out.' He thought is he watched you both panicking struggle to clean up the coffee
"don't use some jacket" you said picking up the paper off your desk that are soaked in coffee
"it's leather it'll wipe off"
"But-"
"It's fine-"
"Mr wayne is gonna see"
"Bruce doesn't care-"
"i'm standing right here" Bruce said from the doorway of his office the entire situation was getting extremely hard to watch. And though Bruce really likes the bonding time you two had, it was getting what Tim would describe as cringe.
You both froze, Bruce stairs at the scene. The lake of coffee, Jason trying to wipe it up with the Jacket he had bought him. You stand there with your head in your hands ears red as a fire truck. The little succulent miraculously unharmed from it all.
"I'll call house keeping to take care of it" Bruce said calmly(tho he really wanted to scold Jason for mess) but he walked back into his office
Behind him he could hear Jason let out a breath followed by said whispering "I am so sorry" and Bruce smiled softly to himself.
The next morning when you go to the office you found a new keyboard on your desk and a large coffee form the shop three blocks from there...the good kind of coffee. And a small note in unexpectedly good handwriting
Sorry about your desk - J
You stared at the not for a long time
Then you folded it neatly and pocketed it and smiled.
Note: guys I have three more chapters planed for this series, I want to thank you for all your kind words :)
