not normie enough to fit in but not fringe enough to lean into being a freak, worst of both worlds, pure liminality, just the weird coworker, and unrelatable classmate. and your mutual
have definitely harped on this before but it really does just drive me absoluely insane when you see a dog breeder talking the big talk of "well i dont breed my dogs FOR DOG SHOWS because i dont BELIEVE in showing, dog shows are just BEAUTY PAGEANTS and mean NOTHING, i breed my dogs for WHAT MATTERS which means HEALTH and TEMPERAMENT and GREAT FAMILY PETS!!" and then you go to look at their dog for more info and it's the most poorly-structured off-type albino lilac double merle dog you've ever seen with zero titles and a single Embark panel as proof of health testing.
it's actually insane that chinese cresteds are called that when they are almost definitely from mexico
"how do you know?"
1) they have the exact same gene mutation that makes them hairless that xolos have
2) i can forgive you for not knowing this if you're not a dog nerd, but the chinese breeds, even the very old ones, are incredibly well documented. we have absolutely gorgeous statues, paintings and writings pertaining to most of the chinese breeds. especially breeds typically owned by the wealthy such as lapdogs and coursing hounds. i have yet to see a single example of a crested or any hairless dog for that matter in historic chinese art.
obligatory shoutout to the Ten Prized Dogs album, some of my absolute favorite historic dog art.
specifically the good money on Chinese Crested is that they result from xolos crossed to european-derived long haired little lapdogs in order to create the really dramatique topknots and furnishings, iirc. xolo/maltese crosses, basically.
i think that's a safe bet, especially with how maltese-y the powderpuff variety looks lol
the founder of the "canaan dog" (bedouin sheepdog/palestinian village dog) was a staunch zionist who wanted them to replace shepherds as the predominant breed used by the iof btw
just to clarify, dogs of the bedouin sheepdog type have existed in Jordan, Lebanon and Palestine for quite literally thousands of years.
Rudolphina Menzel was tasked with essentially setting up a haganah k9 unit. finding that european shepherd breeds had trouble coping with the desert environment, she turned to the native village dogs and bedouin sheepdogs (which were extremely similar in type and almost certainly interbred)
she claimed that the dogs weren't domesticated (literally not true. they have been utilized as companions and herders for thousands of years)
you can still find these dogs today, although the true bedouin sheepdog type is rarer than it was a hundred years ago and often intermixed with western dog breeds (these photos were taken by Steffi Nierhoff)
you can also see the influence of the type on local village dog population
it may not seem like such a big deal (they are, after all, just dogs) but the attempt to rebrand these indigenous dogs as an israeli creation (even going so far as to make it their national dog breed) to me, is another obvious attempt to scrub away any trace of Palestinian culture. claiming that no one owned or cared about these animals before is a story that is eerily similar to the same claim zionists make about the land itself (ie "a land without people")
also funnily enough, the iof uses european shepherd breeds (mostly malinois and gsds) today so i guess these dogs weren't a good choice after all
im not even the biggest fan of toy dogs but if you talk about them like that im going to block you
"ummm any dog under 10 lbs is a rat 🤪 i only like REAL dogs. little ratty purse dogs are soooo useless and obnoxious and they have ugly bug eyes and they never shut up"
you are a tar pit and i hate you
There is something vindictively refreshing when someone asks you should they get this dog (from a bad breeder and/or breed that doesn't fit their lifestyle), you tell them that probably isn't a good idea, they do it anyway, then they have a Bad Time about it. I'm not gonna say I told you so, but I will be smug about it in my head
while im on the subject i really fucking hate the "you should have to take a class before owning this breed because they're sooo hardcore and only the most godlike trainers can safely handle them" bullshit that i see all the time because most of the time the person is talking about like...an amstaff or something.
also even the most "hardcore" working dog is still a fucking dog. it's still going to act like a dog. it's not a tiger or a great white shark. it's a domesticated dog. just do your research before getting it and don't be stupid and you'll be fine. there is not a single breed i know of that requires its owner to have a goddamn PhD, that's insane
what country has the coolest dogs and why is it china

"how is the structure on my 17 week old puppy???" please, throw a blanket over it and don't look at structure until they are at least a year old. Your puppy will be ugly, that's how they are.

I think it's safe to say this kid got the Red Factor.
There are a few Bentley things Crowley will sort out by hand.
Coffee Break.
though essentially i think Aziraphale is just going to sit to one side eat the snacks he bought while watching Crowley finish shining the car.
