"warm, shallow seas" is one of the most beautiful phrases in paleontology and it's everywhere... these mollusks lived in warm, shallow seas... scientists think that photosynthetic life evolved in warm, shallow seas... in that era the Earth was covered by warm, shallow seas...
I wish I was resting by an antediluvian warm, shallow sea

-> listening to a jaunty country style song -> hear the lyrics wrong -> pause. frown. go back a few seconds to relisten -> hears the same fucked up lyrics -> check the actual lyrics to see what it ACTUALLY says

Iāve got a lot of Thoughts(tm) about The Odyssey at the moment, but damnit Blum Iām an archer, not a film critic, so hereās something in my lane!

white usamericans when asked how they're doing, will never say "bad". they'll just say "I'm hanging in there" and that is universally understood as them being so so bad. like. no american is happily hanging in there. we don't like the hang.
need to beam this tweet directly into everyone's minds right now

I do think the right way to think about the Mirror of Galadriel is that itās the equivalent of an entirely home-built computer tower, with chips that are only barely legal for civilians to buy and wires that look like a ratās nest but are actually hyperoptimized for efficiency, and a homemade OS in a coding language she invented, and cybersecurity that would make the CIA cry, and also some judiciously applied superglue and/or gorilla tape, made in their home office by someone who helped invent the internet at DARPA in the 60s.
And that a Palantir is, comparatively, a MacBook Air.
Le Figaro have a newly published photograph from inside Notre Dame shortly before the roof collapsed, as molten lead fell into the nave. (+)
This is what I love about photojournalism. It is just a history of moments where human beings have gone āI know I should really be hauling ass out of here but I have to get a picture of thisā
I was finally able to source this photo! Itās from Le Figaro Magazine, āThe Incredible Story of the Firefighter General of Paris: Our Unpublished Photos,ā from November 1st, 2019. Canāt find a specific credit for the photographer, which is too bad, but I have been skeptical it was a real image; up to now I couldnāt find a primary source Googling.
How did I finally find it? By Googling in French, on French Google.

Full article (not paywalled)
Thank you for finding a source name at least, it allowed me to find the articles to link. I also had my doubts.
he fixed a bunch of potholes recently and all my gay neighbors won't stop posting shit like this
