okay so i have no idea why would one need this info but get ready cause we are going on a trip here
Ill try m y best to keep this organized cause I have no fucking thought structure and it just flows out of my brain but lets try this:

Here we see some general info on the growth of meme popularity, and as we can see in the following graph, memes were reborn in 2011 and are continuing to gain popularity till this day. One more interesting thing is that if you visit the source, countries of Latin America are the leaders in the meme search.
Now lets take a slightly different turn: tumblr memes.
As we see in the above graph; tumblr memes started their rapid growth in fall-winter of 2011, which has potentially, and most likely influenced the general dynamics of the overall google search (graph 1). Even currently, all top meme production happens on tumblr and then spreads to other websites, such as facebook and instagram, with a slight time delay.

This time our term is “facebook”, which was gaining popularity starting in 2009 and remaining stable from 2011 to 2013. 2011 was a great year of emo, I think thats the time phan started gaining popularity? iphone 4s came out as well. But anyways back to memes on facebook in 2011. So why were they so popular? The reason is because memes were (and still are) used as a method of communication. One would make a meme, post it, others would relate to it and share it with their friends. It also fit various age categories: I’ve seen both middle school boys use them, as well as 40 year old men and suburban moms. Memes came from movies, tv shows that people recognized, and everyone could find a meme just for them.

those are most reblogged memes of 2015. As we see a meme has two main possible ways of being created: because of an event that happened that was worth meming about (ex. PSAT, Left Shark); or random human creativity moment that got very popular (Pepe, breadsticks, signs, etc)
Also, the meme production is more active during the summer, as it is the break from school/college and more time can be devoted to the art of memeing.

CURRENT ECONOMIC SITUATION IN THE MEME INDUSTRY
Let’s look at this supply and demand curve. Many people have asked about the price value of memes, lets take pepe as an example. Currently I don’t see many rare pepes on my dash, but there arent’t many people crying about how they need them either. But if we go back to summer 2015, people were obsessed with pepe, and meme production satisfied their needs. That was the equilibrium of the pepe production. Because this meme example fits on the graph, its logical that we can approximate a price for a pepe. Money can be exchanged for goods and services, so buying a personalized meme would make sense. A rare pepe. Only for you. Maybe you as a pepe. Maybe your favorite character. Insinite possibilities. You just have to find the artist who would do that.
And considering there are a plenty broke artists on here, that shouldn’t be too hard. An average price for a flat colored piece is around 15$. And there it is. As for now, with not as high demand, you can get the rarest pepe (it might be shared only between you and artist if you choose not to show anyone) for anywhere between 7$ to 25$ (prices I’ve seen)
For additional cost you might be able to create a meme with a designer and advertise it (maybe even via tumblr adds)
So lets see what would be the cost of making a popular meme with no skills on tumblr:
1. Design- I know people who would probably sit and work with you on it and make multiple variations of YOUR perfect meme for about 50-100$
2. Lets assume you have very little to no followers on your blog. Some popular blogs do adds and promos on their blogs for money. I’ve seen numbers around 100$/24 hours which would be just enough to get your meme started
SO here we are. We have calculated that approximate economic value of making a meme is 200$. Not bad huh? And what you get in return? Popularity and pride i guess idk? but if you want to pay me to make a meme for you im always available.
Considering nothing too dramatic happens in the world/on this website I believe memes could go with their slid established popularity for 5-15 years until the younger generation changes the older one, and maybe we will even a new form of social media entertainment.
