I would like to add the additional trivia that the mercs' posing is a reference to the film poster of 1993's Godzilla Vs Mechagodzilla II (the people in the bottom-right corner of the poster).

(Artist Noriyoshi Ohrai created the poster.)

This adds the meta context that Medic and Heavy are standing in the place of two characters who are love interests towards each other in the film (Kazuma Aoki and Azusa Gojo). And Sniper (wearing a crocodile mask) is standing in the place of Baby Godzilla. Pyro's in place for a woman who is a psychic, and Spy replaces a professor.
