I KNEW THERE WAS A WAY TO CLOWN ABOUT THE SONG WHEW
Shatter & Shine x
I just love him so much, he’s so paintable 😭🥰
Just wanted to say a big THANK YOU to everyone who leaves nice tags/ comments on my art, they really mean the world to me; especially right now 🥹💓
I just think it's a great time to remember that, yes, even if there is a group of people that gave guidance and set certain things up and steered the ship at the outset, everything that's been happening with regards to saving OFMD has been ordinary every day fans doing what they do.
Heck, there's been almost zero guidance for a few weeks, and the #SaveOFMD and #AdoptOurCrew tags have been rolling along with thousands and thousands and thousands of tweets (I've only seen it dip below 20k once). We did that. Just regular fans did that. So many of these amazing things (like Lube As A Crew!) came from fans reaching out and going 'ooh let's try this!'. Heck, Lube as a Crew was trending MASSIVELY well last night without any guidance from some centralised group - the community did that!
The power in a fan community is that it is grass roots. It's organic. It's why there's so many different OFMD fan fundraising initiatives that all work separately but alongside each other, and it's how we as a fandom have raised so much money for so many different causes.
If you want to do something, do it! Give it a go! Set it up! If you need to, message/tag someone who has a little more clout in the fandom and see if they'll give your idea a boost! If you have an idea but are unsure and need some help shaping it, reach out and find people to help (more on where you might find this in a later paragraph)! It's all coming from the ground up, not the other way around.
There are new groups of fans that are stepping into the space to try and provide guidance, or at least provide a space to develop ideas, but, crucially, these have all so far seemed to have a greater focus on working with the community, rather than leading it. Which I think is the best direction to go in.
Yes, it's great to have spaces where we have people with experience giving some sort of a steer, or offering professional advice, but, again, it needs to be rooted in community - nurturing community, encouraging involvement, sharing expertise whilst also giving space for people to develop their own ideas and find support. Some of the newer initiatives popping up (such as @AdoptOurCrew and @SaveOFMDCrew) seem to be very much about that, and that's what's needed. That's where the power is.
On that note, if you have an idea you want some backing or support with, you can do much worse than getting in touch with one (or both!) of those accounts. I'm currently in the SaveOFMD discord server (campaigning is my job, so wanted to get involved and try and be useful!), and I've been in touch with AdoptOurCrew individually (they helped boost my call out for stories for an article), and I thoroughly recommend that anyone who has an idea, or wants to get involved, reach out to them. Crucially, for me, it all feels like part of the same community working together towards the same goal.
I know that it's reassuring to think there's something centralised that we can just follow - one place that has all knowledge and where everything is coming from - and I know that losing that is frightening, but it's really important to remember: that is not how any of this works, it is not how communities work, and it is not how this campaign has been successful.
It's not been just a couple of people at the top. It never was. It's you who has achieved all this. You are the reason so much has happened so far. You are so much more powerful than you are giving yourself any credit for.
Our Flag Means Us, remember?

Hey anon!
Yes, you who took the time to write me a message about how I spend all my time and effort on a stupid pirate show that doesn't even have good queer rep!
I was too busy to answer earlier, because I spent the day at a political demonstration. We fought against social security cuts and reforms that will strike those in the most vulnerable position in our society and those who work low wage jobs.
In the morning, I paid the rent and sent my monthly donation to the forest/mire conservation in my own country. Then I looked at my remaining funds and decided I can still spare some, so I donated to Palestine. That donation alone was 10% of my monthly unemployment benefit.
In the evening, I noticed your message.
You can't tell what people actually spend their time, energy or money on by looking at their Tumblr.
I hope your activism included something more than just sending a hateful anon message to a complete stranger today, because that actually doesn't do much for Palestine or the world in general.
Also.
Ask yourself this.
Why do you think it is the responsibility of individuals, who are not in a position of political power and don't have excessive wealth, to spend everything they can spare to help the world? Shouldn't you demand that from people who have millions to spare and people who have real influence over things?
Why have you not once mentioned Ukraine when attacking OFMD fans about donations?
Have you spent money on anything you didn't need when you could've donated that money? Have you bought coffee? Takeout? New clothes? Makeup? Streaming services?
Oh, right. I forgot. Nothing I say or do makes a difference, because I'm supporting a "Zionist show". 🤷
I'm seeing a lot of hate in the tags today so let's just go ahead and take all the bitching over the ads campaign to its natural conclusion.
Ignoring that the ad campaign raised over ten thousand dollars to be donated to charity and we have the receipts proving that happened, come on a little thought experiment with me.
A bit ago, I finished saving up 300 dollars and I spent it on a Lego kit I'd been wanting (the motorized lighthouse, if you're curious). That's the kind of purchase I usually don't have the disposable income to make responsibly, so it took me months of putting money aside for it. It was a responsibly-timed purchase; I made sure my bills were paid and grocery needs were met before I bought it. It also brought me many hours of happiness as I assembled it and I love looking at it displayed now in my home. Obviously, because I bought this thing from the Lego company, none of that money went towards charity. Was this purchase morally wrong of me because I chose to spend what is, to me, a fairly significant chunk of change on a selfish purchase instead of donating the money I'd been putting away little by little?
If your honest answer is yes, then honestly that's a pretty online take and we've got nothing more to say to each other. There are many terrible things happening in the world right now, but the idea that someone is morally reprehensible for spending money on something that matters to them instead of donating is wildly out of touch. Yes, I think you should absolutely donate to many of the excellent charities providing relief if you can! I've been running charity drives through my university for months, it's very important to me! But making the occasional selfish purchase is not morally wrong, and harassing people for doing so is not activism.
Renewal campaigns for cancelled shows are not new. Fans of other shows (I think Shadow and Bone?) have also been collecting money to put up ads recently. OFMD is an incredibly important show to many people - it's the first time I've ever felt so seen and respected by a TV show, and the first time I've ever seen a brown, gay man like myself as a romantic lead. It's a fucking good show, there's nothing wrong with us for wanting it back, and honestly if you donated to the ads campaign who fucking cares. That's no worse than me choosing to put money aside for a Lego kit instead of donating it. People making selfish purchases, whether towards a renewal campaign for a show they love or an overpriced cup of coffee, are not your enemy.
I'm genuinely surprised how hard the news of RAAC coming to an end hit the fandom. I read their announcement this morning and didn't actually even think much of it, because I have so much fate in us as a community.
I'm so grateful for everything RAAC has done for the renewal campaign, and I'm especially grateful that they were here to support the fandom for the hardest part: the cancellation of the show. RAAC was ready to spring into action when OFMD was cancelled, while everyone was still in shock. RAAC provided us with instructions and made sure that the first push of the campaign was loud.
But our community - our crew - is so much more than RAAC.
Our crew makes the hashtags trend on X. Our crew keeps coming up with new watch parties and theme days. Our crew keeps contacting the streaming services every day. Our crew keeps lifting each other up in hard times. Our crew keeps the online engagement up. Our crew keeps streaming the show.
We got this.
So get suited up, we've got a show to save. 🏴☠️💜
Wow, the Xitter support certainly works well. 🤨
My account was suspended, I appealed. Got an email saying they can't verify me as the owner of the account.
I appealed again and gave them my date of birth and the date when I created the account, because that's about all the info they have on me. Also attached a screenshot of X where I'm logged into my account. Got an email saying they can't verify me as the owner.
I made a new account, let's see if that gets suspended too 🤷
More Clownery!
I'm in the mood for some clownery! 🤡 I know nothing about the TV industry beyond the fact that Zaslav really sucks at it, so I can make baseless theories to cheer myself along.
In our clownery, I don't think the strikes have been mentioned a lot? There is this Q3 2023 Earnings Call from WBD with this Zaslav (?) quote:
And while the third quarter subscriber numbers were impacted by one of our lightest original content schedules in years, in part due to the strike constraints that compelled us to delay some releases, as well as a further decline in the overlapping Discovery Plus subscriber base, which we expected and discussed with you.
This was in response to 700k subscriber loss Max had in Q3 2023, and it makes the cancellation of every original show just a headscratcher. WBD is not alone in delaying project releases. The strike is going to have an impact that won't resolve in a few months, and streamers are going to continue to have light original content schedules. (I know I just saw an article about Netflix using almost the exact same quote; I tried to find it, but it was a super depressing "Netflix cancels everything" pool I entered, and I don't need it in my clownery.)
What's the clownery point, though? Streamers have a large gap in original programming that they usually don't. When we talk about other renewal campaigns and try to compare to them, most of those campaigns are not coming directly after an event causing complaints of "light original content schedules." They're in more of need of original content than usual, and there is this show that's in the top 0.2% of demand, a loud fanbase that does effective marketing for free (remember, OFMD wasn't marketed AT ALL and beat MCU and Star Wars shows with S1), untapped international markets and merchandizing opportunities, a strong Gen Z demographic, and strong diverse representation. It's a slam dunk hit in a time that streamers need to pad their schedules. Something has to go terribly wrong for there to be no pick up (and, goodness, in our world do things go terribly wrong often).
Max is a failure of a platform, and "The Numbers" that Bloys was talking about was that Max itself doesn't have resources, methinks. I wonder now is it even going to be a platform in two years. They could have renewed OFMD, got it into production later this year, then needed a year in post, and... would Max even be there? Max as a platform isn't even a year old, and WBD hasn't had hold of HBO for two years yet. Here is a list of Max original programming, and just looking at a list of those things that premiered 2022 or later, the renewal rate is awful. OFMD was its top show (or easy Top 3... which they would release "The Numbers"), and it couldn't survive. They don't make many series, and they can't even support what they do make. Quality of the shows isn't the issue: it's that Max itself is a failure. We saw that funny article about WBD's stock downgrade, and it said that WBD should license Game of Thrones and Friends out, and frankly, if they do that, that's the end of Max as a platform. That's the bulk of their traffic, and people aren't paying an extra $20/mo for background noise reality TV when YouTube, Instagram, TikTok, etc. are right there.
I stand by this 4evah:

I finally got my other blog back!! It took 3 weeks after it was terminated, but it's baaaaack! 🥳🎉
The blog I'm posting from now is a sideblog. My original plan was to reblog all posts from this blog to the new main blog, then start actively posting from there... But then the new blog got terminated, the cancellation happened, and I had to make this sideblog public and start posting from here instead. 😵💫
I'm gonna queue the rest of the reblogs on that blog and I'll make a post when I'm moving over there for good! There's currently 500 posts in that queue and it's set to post 50 times per day so... you don't wanna be there for that lmao. 😂
An older wip that I felt like working on some more 👀
