Really confused as to how my logo changed to kermit the frog. Unless im starting to have hallucinations from lack of sleep. Still. mindfucked.
I found someone’s tumblr logged in on this computer and all I did was change the icon
Teachers have tried this and are amazed when their classes don’t go feral like in the book. It’s almost as if the book was supposed to be satire and not a treaty on the nature of humanity.
there’s a timeskip
THERE’S A TIMESKIP
THERE’S A TIMESKIP
THERE’S A TIMESKIP
after losing control of the signal fire there’s a FUCKING TIMESKIP and when the next chapter starts everyone’s hair is several inches longer and their clothes have rotted to shreds and they’re still just kind of chilling!!!!
IT TAKES THE TERRIBLE IMPERIALISM MIND-POISONED EXCESSIVELY BRITISH BOYS IN THE ACTUAL BOOK SEVERAL MONTHS TO COMMIT A SINGLE ACT OF INTENTIONAL VIOLENCE, EVEN THE ONE (1) CHILD WRITTEN AS AN ACTUAL SOCIOPATH
AND then when they DO turn on each other it is because
THERE’S AN UNSPECIFIED WORLD WAR HAPPENING
AND A PILOT’S CORPSE CRASH LANDS ON THE ISLAND POST-DOGFIGHT AND THE CHILDREN MISTAKE THE PARACHUTE FOR A MONSTER AND SPIRAL INTO PARANOIA
BECAUSE CHILDREN INHERIT THE LEGACY AND TRAUMA OF VIOLENCE FROM THE ADULTS WAGING WAR AROUND THEM
HURR DURR IN THE REAL WORLD IT WOULD NEVER HAPPEN LIKE IN LORD OF THE FLIES -
IT DIDN’T HAPPEN THAT WAY IN LORD OF THE FLIES EITHER YOU JUST HAVEN’T READ IT SINCE HIGH SCHOOL IF EVER AND DON’T REMEMBER WHAT ACTUALLY HAPPENED IN THE GODDAMN BOOK
#tbf the dude wrote it to be a dick
yes. yes he did. i’m also gonna direct you to the real life ‘lord of the flies’ which occured in the 1960s, when six tongan schoolboys got stranded on a desert island for over a year before being rescued by an australian fisherman (who, it should be noted, later took on all six as crewmembers because the reason they were out in the first place was because they wanted to see the world, and named his ship the Ata after the island they were stranded on). nobody died. the only injuries that occurred were accidental, and when one of the boys broke his leg falling down a cliff, the others braced it and looked after him so well that it healed perfectly. if they argued, then they would literally go to opposite sides of the island until they’d cooled off. after leaving the island, they remained friends for the rest of their lives. here’s a photo of them as adults, with their rescuer (who is third from the left) and other members of his crew.
i read about this in rutger bregman’s human kind, a book i cannot recommend highly enough, but if you don’t want to go and read a whole book about the inherent goodness of humanity (which again, you really should) then the relevant excerpt can be found here.
ok WOW definitely consider reading the article, these boys–Sione, Stephen, Kolo, David, Luke and Mano–showed tremendous cooperation as well as the ability to share and farm scarce resources, and to care for each other in times of sickness and injury. Not only that, by the time they were finally rescued, “the boys had set up a small commune with food garden, hollowed-out tree trunks to store rainwater, a gymnasium with curious weights, a badminton court, chicken pens and a permanent fire, all from handiwork, an old knife blade and much determination.”
They were all between the ages of 13 and 16 at the time of the shipwreck. And from the very beginning they recognized the importance of co-operation and resource-sharing–starting with sharing rainwater equally while they were adrift for 8 days without food or fresh water.
And here is an interview with one of the survivors (Sione Totau, now 73 years old)

HOLD ON
I just made a post about elves having slit pupils, but I was looking at cool contact lenses and found a MUCH cooler option
When the elves manifest their abilities, their eyes change to match their abilities.
Dex has clockwork or circuit board eyes.
Marella, Fintan, and Brant have cool Eye of Sauron eyes.
Before we discover that Brant is a pyrokinetic, we never see his eyes. He sits in his stone house all day with his eyes shut tight because any light reminds him of the fire that killed Jolie. At some point, Brant opens his eyes and reveals his fire eyes and it's TERRIFYING because now we know that he's the mysterious pyrokinetic we've been searching for (but Sophie doesn't know- her back is turned and only the audience sees Brant's eyes)
Mr Forkle is blind and wears sunglasses, so Sophie doesn't realize he's an elf. (He has a guide-banshee badly disguised as a dog)
Keefe's eyes opening after his coma to reveal strange eyes we've never seen before. A close-up of Marella's ordinary blue eyes with orange color slowly seeping out from the center of her pupil as she manifests. Tam's eyes normally being pure black but filling with swirling glowing sparkles when he controls shadowflux.
I made a thing
Great question! The answer is that for every one ability, you get a pair of two eyes to represent it.
So if you have extra abilities, you simply get extra sets of eyes.
Something like this?

SOMEONE FINALLY SAID IT
So if a teenager is at school for roughly 8 hours, and they are doing homework for 6+ hours, and they need AT LEAST 9 HOURS OF SLEEP FOR THEIR DEVELOPING BRAINS, then they may have 0-1 hours for other activities like eating, bathing, exercise, socializing (which is actually incredibly important for emotional, mental, and physical health, as well as the development of skills vital to their future career and having healthy romantic relationships among other things), religious activities, hobbies, extra curriculars, medical care of any kind, chores (also a skill/habit development thing and required by many parents), relaxation, and family time? Not to mention that your parents may or may not pressure you to get a job, or you might need to get one for economic reasons.
I will never not reblog this
“…but teenagers have no reason to be stressed.”
hey did you know anxiety levels in high school teens are actually as high as they were in insane asylum patients in the 1950’s? :)
damn!! that last comment… holy shit dude
I thought this was going to be inspirational but it’s better
We’re two weeks out from the Season 4 premiere, so we’ve got a special announcement for you.
Introducing out S4 Juno Steel poster artist!
We are thrilled to introduce our Juno Steel S4 poster artist, Ellison Estephan aka @littledeadling!
Ellison is a character designer and animator from British Columbia, Canada. In their free time, they enjoy writing stories, comics, and making music. Their work often focuses on dreamscapes and telling optimistic fantasy stories from queer perspectives. You can also find them on Twitter and Instagram @/ellisonestephan.
Let’s give them a “warm Kanagawa welcome,” shall we? (JK please don’t we actually need them alive for the season — but you can check out some of their past work below!)
wowee been a while huh? anyways have angsty Jon :))
Human development is destructive, but cities are more biodiverse than a lot of people realize. Here’s a shoutout to the resilient, adaptive creatures that thrive on the periphery of human-dominated habitats. Please be kind to them - they are our neighbors.
The world's longest-running lab experiment
The Pitch Drop Experiment
The experiment demonstrates the fluidity and high viscosity of pitch, a derivative of tar that is the world's thickest known fluid and was once used for waterproofing boats.
Thomas Parnell, UQ's first Professor of Physics, created the experiment in 1927 to illustrate that everyday materials can exhibit quite surprising properties.
At room temperature pitch feels solid - even brittle - and can easily be shattered with a hammer. But, in fact, at room temperature the substance - which is 100 billion times more viscous than water - is actually fluid.
In 1927 Professor Parnell heated a sample of pitch and poured it into a glass funnel with a sealed stem. He allowed the pitch to cool and settle for three years, and then in 1930 he cut the funnel's stem.
Since then, the pitch has slowly dripped out of the funnel - so slowly that it took eight years for the first drop to fall, and more than 40 years for another five to follow.
Now, 87 years after the funnel was cut, only nine drops have fallen - the last drop fell in April 2014 and we expect the next one to fall sometime in the 2020s.
The experiment was set up as a demonstration and is not kept under special environmental conditions - it's kept in a display cabinet - so the rate of flow of the pitch varies with seasonal changes in temperature.
The late Professor John Mainstone became the experiment's second custodian in 1961. He looked after the experiment for 52 years but, like his predecessor Professor Parnell, he passed away before seeing a drop fall.
In the 86 years that the pitch has been dripping, various glitches have prevented anyone from seeing a drop fall.
