Hello friends, I'm Ahmed from Gaza. The war is over now, but our pain and suffering haven't. I studied computer science at the Islamic University of Gaza. During the war, I lost everything: my home, my job, my car, and my tablet. I'm now homeless and without shelter. Despite all that, I tried my best to finish my university studies during the war and take my exams under difficult circumstances, under bombardment. Now I'm about to finish. I need your help to complete my studies abroad and cover the travel expenses. Therefore, I need your support and assistance to achieve my dreams and ambitions. If you can't donate, you can share this post and talk about me and my dreams.
I am Hani I am 39 years old and my wife Nour is 34 years old We lived the most beautiful years of my life I gave birth to Abdullah, Saleh and Salma My family is beautiful I had a beauty salon My craft was one of my most beautiful hobbies But the occupation destroyed my source of income and my home It also destroyed my health, I was seriously injured in my left foot and my injury led to my need for an artificial joint I was injured on 7/3/2023, for not providing treatment in Gaza and closing the crossings I have not been treated until this moment and my health has deteriorated and my feet have eroded And I am unable to provide the basic and secondary requirements for my children every day the pain increases more and more
Even my wife was not spared from this war that destroys my 🥺 family, my wife was pregnant and after giving birth to my baby tulip, the child died because of the lack of milk and malnutrition for my wife and my wife was anemic due to the lack of healthy food for my wife and instability
🧒Abdullah is 12 years old, my eldest son. I was waiting for the moment when he would enter middle school. Unfortunately, his school was completely destroyed, but in the war he lost his hobby of playing football. But in the war we lost everything beautiful. 🌿
My daughter Salma👩 🦰 is 11 years old. She is one of the most beautiful princesses👑, but my heart bleeds when she tells me why we children are different from the world. 🍉🌹
Saleh 👶is 7 years old. It's a home joke. He has many talents. He loved his kindergarten very much. He waited for the morning to play with his friends and practice his hobby in kindergarten. I'm afraid to tell him that his kindergarten has been destroyed. It ruined his childhood and his laughter. ♥️🇵🇸

I think Brett Helquist's Scary Stories to Tell in the Dark illustrations ARE scary, just different.
I'm sure if you were a fan of the Scary Stories books growing up you know about the controversial republish with illustrations by Brett Helquist instead of Stephen Gammell. The common consensus is that these redraws aren't bad, they just aren't scary. I for one disagree. I think they are scary! Just in a different, more subdued way. A better word might be creepy or unnerving.
This isn't to say his version isn't without its sillier drawings, but the Stephen Gammell version had those too! I remember the original drawing from A New Horse also just made me giggle instead of scaring me.
Stephen Gammell's illustrations are frightening in a wild sort of way. When thinking of them as we look at Brent Helquist's version, we tend to say it's lackluster in comparison. His versions are definitely more calm and smooth than the originals, but that combined with his use of shadow makes for its own unnerving atmosphere.
Take these examples from The Walk, The Drum, and The Dream :
The muddy grey background and deep shadow in his drawings makes them feel cold. Figures are often alone in the scene or accompanied by people that are turned away from them, or the ghost or ghoul in question for that story. Even when people are present the drawings feel lonely. He presents the scenes very matter-of-factly as they appear in the writing, so there is an air of normalcy to them, but also a feeling of discomfort. The woman from The Dream is by all means a normal looking woman, but she is suspended in this vast grey void with only a large, ornate staircase to accompany her. It's creepy and also kind of lonely and sad. It sort of reminds me of a dream that isn't quite a bad dream, but leaves you feeling weird and uncomfortable when you wake up.
I think a good comparison would be Dirk Zimmer's illustrations for another of Alvin Schwartz's compilations of stories, In a Dark, Dark Room and Other Scary Stories.
His artwork is cartoonish, exact to the story, and by all means child friendly, but I have heard many people report, especially with regards to the girl with the green ribbon, that something about the illustrations unnerved them. That the girl didn't seem quite human even before knowing the twist.
I don't think Stephen Gammell's illustrations needed to be toned down or replaced. Me and many other children enjoyed them thoroughly and had fun being scared in a safe way. That being said I think both versions can be enjoyed for their unique styles and ways of creeping out the viewer.
Hello and Happy Holidays! I have a lot of asks in my inbox from people in Gaza needing help and id like to share them all, so for ease of viewing and sharing information I've compiled them in one post. Please consider donating if you can, especially now during the cold and rainy winter months.

Ruth Orkin (September 3, 1921 – January 16, 1985), People Lying on Tanglewood Lawn, Lenox, Massachusetts, 1948.
this little passage from Mr. Rogers' book You Are Special made me tear up a little I can't lie
from Catherine Sieck
This video depicts a moment that is nearly impossible to observe: a sperm whale surfacing with a giant squid clenched between its teeth. These predators hunt at depths exceeding 800 meters, where light does not penetrate, and only biosonar directs the pursuit. Consequently, clear surface images are exceedingly rare.
🎬: @lud_adventure
This is, factually, the first footage of this that we have ever gotten. This has never been observed by a human being before in recorded history. The only reason we knew these whales ate those squids before was the beaks of the squids found in the stomachs of dead whales, and the battle scars on whales consistent with fighting giant squids.
My favorite thing about this clip is that, in the original uncropped footage, you can see her calf is right beside her, ascending from the depths along with her. Whale calves don't dive until they're taught by their mothers. It is very likely that this footage is of a mother whale teaching her calf to hunt on one of its very first dives.
When I saw this footage for the first time, I cried a little tbh.
Arising from the inky depths with a delicious giant squid snack… with mama.
I remember when Giant Squid were kind of… a thing that had never been seen, only inferred. And then we found dead ones and it was a big exciting moment, but still… Nobody ever got footage of a live one.
And now, we have this.
Please help my family
My name is Aisha
I never imagined I would find myself in a situation that would require me to write these words, but life has taken an unexpected and devastating turn. My family, consisting of my beloved husband and our eight children, is facing a crisis that we cannot overcome alone. Our home, once filled with love and laughter, has been shattered. The roof over our heads, the walls that protected us, and the place where our children grew up are lost. We lost not only our home, but the foundations of our lives. Now, we struggle every day to survive, with nowhere to go or a way to rebuild without help.
Our children, who should be focused on school and their dreams, worry instead about where they will sleep or when their next meal will be. The weight of their fear and confusion breaks my heart. As parents, we feel helpless and unable to provide basic necessities for our loved ones.
We are urgently asking for help because we cannot do this alone. We need to rebuild not only our home, but our lives. Every donation, no matter the size, will go directly to providing our children with a safe place to sleep, food to eat, and a chance to dream again. Please, if you can find it in your heart to help us during this desperate time, we will be forever grateful to you. May your kindness and generosity be the light that guides us through this darkness.
I am Elizabeth, and I am fundraising on behalf of Aisha and her family from Gaza. Here is her message:"My name is Aisha Rabah, I am 42 years
