THE GRINCH AND THE ONCELER WOULD NOT FALL IN LOVE
ONE OF THE REASONS THE GRINCH HATES CHRISTMAS IS THE CONSUMERIST CULTURE THAT SURROUNDS IT. IN FACT, HIS VIEW OF CHRISTMAS IS OBFUSCATED TO THE POINT THAT THIS IS ALL HE THINKS CHRISTMAS IS! HIS RELEVATION AT THE END OF THE BOOK IS THAT CHRISTMAS DOESN’T COME FROM A STORE AND THIS BRINGS HIM FAITH IN THE HOLIDAY! HE WOULD NOT EVER FALL IN LOVE WITH THE ONCELER, A NOTED CAPITALIST.

Barbara Kruger’s never really talked about Supreme, the skate company who’s been ripping off her ideas and prints letter for letter, color for color, for their red-and-white logo, which you have seen, because it is everywhere.
I emailed her casually to ask her about this. And today, she got back to me, and gave a candid statement on the matter of Supreme for the first time, ever, really. By emailing me a blank email, with an attachment. Which you can see above.
an iconic moment in art history
For those who aren’t in the loop or forgot the name:
Barbara Kruger is the anti-consumerist, feminist artist who made pieces such as the ones below and pioneered a new, unique aesthetic in typography (an aesthetic that has been copied wholesale by “Supreme’s” marketing.)

OBJECT FOCUS: SHIP PENDANTS
1,2,3,4.
The ship motif began to appear on pendants from the beginning of the 1500s, when designers expressed the excitement of maritime exploration through pendants shaped as galleons. These examples range in date from the 1600s to the early 1900s, and together demonstrate how the ship motif achieved longevity with in the decorative arts and jewellery design. These pendants are very beautiful, displaying incredibly skilled craftsmanship and excellent design.
