non-Natives getting dreamcatcher tattoos is always racist
Even if youâre getting it to âhonourâ a Native person you know. We are more than dreamcatchers (which are specific to Anishinaabe people anyway so if ur out there getting one for your Navajo friend or whatever youâre double racist)
Question
Why is no one talking about the rainbow flag that got shown at the love fest in brasil?
I mean,, all the original colours are there (plus a inclusive white stripe with a very lovely meaning!)
Isnât it beautiful? look at it hanging there, representing all these lovely people! Itâs so colourful, it only can spread positive vibes!
And since I couldnât find the flag in a good size, I made one quick!
What do y'all think?
combination?
earlier today i was nonverbal for a bit but no one was around except the cats, so i signed at molly that sheâs a good cat and she. immediately started purring. this cat knows too much. i live in fear that someday s

not to sound rude but if you need your religion to make moral choices that's frightening
one of my least favorite things about the us is how much nationalistic propaganda you're taught from a young age and how if you call it that you get harassed and ostracized
No offense but when are these takes trying to provide some âdefenseâ for bullying because the objects of the bullying were âtoo weirdâ going to stop. Like people donât usually develop these kinds of âstrangeâ or anti-social behaviors in a vacuum anyways. I knew a girl in middle school who did the growling thing and she had been bullied since the 3rd grade, long before she got into anime. She did the growling thing because kids would physically harass her and teachers wouldnât do anything about it, but they stopped when she started doing that. She told me it was easier to stomach getting made fun of for doing âweirdâ things/having âweirdâ interests than it was to have inherit facts about herself mocked. Â
Like I know some Anime Kids in school were invariably dicks but you still canât ultimately use odd or âcringyâ behavior to justify the cruel choices of other people to mock and torment others. So many of these kids have tons of trauma from being mocked just for having a particular interest or sense of style. Was a kid wearing a raccoon tail to school because they thought it was fun and cute really worth mocking them to the point of self-hatred? If kids were getting bullied to the point of tears in this year because they liked to do Fornite Dances in the lunchroom would you think itâs funny and that the kids deserve bullying for being weird?Â
And this shit was also just like an excuse to even more safely pick on people who were already on the âto-bullyâ list. Think about how many people from this group were fat or not white or gay or neurodivergent and how that played into how they were ostracized in the first place. A lot of these kids wouldâve gotten bullied even if they werenât into anime/doing These Particular Weird Things because thatâs what bullies do. Thatâs what bullies were doing before they âgot into weird stuffâ and itâs what they wouldâve continued doing. Stop trying to make it a funny joke that people decided to traumatize their classmates because their classmates tried to commit the crime of having âabnormalâ fun or having âabnormalâ ways of dealing with harassment.Â
Also mocking people for weird but ultimately HARMLESS behaviors? lmao Thatâs pretty much every autisticâs person story of how they were first traumatized.
And it doesnât help that we have a hard time understanding what is or isnât socially acceptable, the social isolation that comes from bullying at an early age only makes it way harder to understand social cues through time because we have no one to learn from that wouldnât want us to drink bleach, especially when if weâre LUCKY our only other company is kids in the exact same situation as us with the same difficulties.
I would get bullied for talking to my inanimate belongings because of autistic hyperempathy. May I add, I wasnât loud, I was a very quiet kid and I mostly sat alone.
Letâs also not act like people donât actually bully you for simply liking something odd. They absolutely do. I was bullied heavily for still liking dolls past an age my peers deemed appropriate, even though I never once brought one to school and I made sure to never remind them of it.
I HATE THE ALLISTICS.
the growling thing specifically is⌠pretty common for autistic kids? or making other âinappropriateâ noises, either as a vocal stim or (in the case of growling) because they donât have a better way of expressing that theyâre hurt, or upset, or want to be left alone.
like yâall are absolutely kidding yourselves if you think âweirdâ behaviors have nothing whatsoever to do with autistic/otherwise developmentally disabled kids and that you magically knew/know who ââdeservesââ to be bullied. you canât in any way justify the ostracism and abuse of a child for being âweirdâ you absolute fucking freaks, even if itâs in a way you personally find to be Too Much.
I canât believe that the sacredness of shared meals is not well known???Â
Mealtime is an extremely important cultural and social ritual. There are psychological benefits for cooking for other people, and serving a meal stabilizes the emotions between the provider and the receiver. Cooking with your partner, like accomplishing any task together, strengthens relationships. Eating together strengthens communal bonds and helps with mental health. Sharing the same food with someone else builds trust, cooperation, and a sense of connectivity. Itâs a shame how in our fast paced society we donât value the importance of regularly breaking bread with one another
Just FYI if you have celiac disease or another food allergy that makes it difficult to participate in food-based rituals (eating wedding or birthday cake, eating traditional religious foods, hotdogs at the ballpark, popcorn at the theater, barbecue with family, etc.) this can lead to a real sense of alienation based on all the reasons above; food is bonding.
This can be especially true if you are around a lot of people who are bothered when you wonât âjust have a little bitâ or who say âyou can cheat just this onceâ when theyâre offering you the food that they made that is dangerous to you.
Building your own food-based rituals and communities is a form of self-care for people with food allergies. If you can find a group of people who will cook with you and accommodate you never let them go.
I have a particular kind of cupcakes that I always bake for myself to take along in my purse to weddings so I can share in the fun of having the dessert. I bake gluten-free holiday treats to share with friends and family. Once a week I go to my parentsâ house and we cook a meal together that I can eat and we all can share.
Itâs important, itâs worthwhile to make the time for. And people who refuse to let you form your own rituals to be closer to them arenât acting with your best interests at heart.
Be kind. Eat well.
Anti-Indigenous things to quit saying/doing:
- Stop saying âoff the reservationâ. Itâs a reference to the pass system that was in place restricting Native people from leaving without permission.
- Stop making â1/16thâ, âgreat-great grandmotherâ, etc. jokes. All of these reference blood quantum, a system designed to âbreed out the Nativesâ. Indigeneity isnât defined by a percentage, fraction, etc. Quit policing Indigenous identities and quit joking about genocidal tactics.
- Stop calling things your âspirit animalâ. You donât have one. Only Indigenous people from specific nations have spirit animals.
- Stop making dreamcatchers. They are sacred Anishinaabe culture and are not cute trinkets, crafts, etc. Buy them from Anishinaabe artists.
- Stop buying those little cloth âteepeesâ for your kids/pets/whatever. Also stuff with tipi prints
- Quit referring to your âtribeâ. Enough with the âbride tribeâ nonsense and all the rest. Stop trivializing tribal affiliations.
- Donât wear âwar paintâ. Donât put a feather in your hair. Donât dress up as Native people or characters.
- Stop referring to your meetings/side discussions/parties as a âpow wowâ.
- Stop supporting sports teams that use racist terms and logos and caricatures of Indigenous people.
- Stop using white sage. It is sacred and overharvested. There are lots of types of sage you can use instead.
- Stop âsmudgingâ. Smoke cleansing exists in many forms in many cultures, use that. Non-Natives canât smudge.
- Stop tokenizing your Native friends, classmates, in-laws, half siblings, etc.
Please add more!
- Stop treating Native spirits as generic monsters or cryptids, especially w*ndigoag and sk*nwalkers.
- Stop using imagery of skulls in Plains headdresses, especially as tattoos. This shouldnât need to be explained.
- stop calling people indian givers
Itâs vital that young trans people understand that they can have a future
not can, do and will. it shouldnât be a âmaybeâ, because itâs not. Itâs a definite thing - young trans people **have** a future, and we need to guide and lead them into it with open hearts and open minds
For anybody doubting this - please look at this photobook of older trans adults, who have not only survived, but thrived. You do have a future. You just have to believe in yourself.
i am begging you all to get a new word besides crackheadÂ
saying no/making jokes in the tags of this post is not actually funny and just shows that you refuse to think of people w/ addictions as PEOPLEâŚ. like please examine why you want to keep using a word that demonizes and demeans people with addictions
college is catered towards the able bodied and able minded. school applauds people who can stay up all night, skip meals, and work endlessly. that kind of extreme contribution is expected. why are disabled people being squeezed out of academic institutions? why should I feel inferior because of some arbitrary and ridiculous standard?
The undying truth.
Not to mention, every college campus Ive ever been on is MADE of stairs and hills.
It's 2018
The Americans With Disabilities Act (ADA) was just reformed so that disabled people canât sue public businesses for discrimination because it would be discrimination against that business.
50% of all US murder victims by police officers are disabled
Bathrooms, entryways, seating, parking, and other public spaces are segregated for disabled people
Disabled children are required to go to segregated schools
Disabled people can'tâŚ
Get married without losing their health insurance which is a death sentence
Have savings accounts
Have more than $2000 at any given time
Own or inherent property
Own jewelry worth more than $100 or other items worth more than $500 without reporting them to the government
It is legal for a parent to murder a disabled child if they consider that child an undue burden
This is an extremely short list of things you are leaving out of your social justice
NTABs okay to reblog
Itâs important to note black disabled people make up the majority of the percentage of police murder victims.
Native people: get murdered and jailed for touching their own religion for a long ass time, which only changed within recent memory.
White people: excuse me, by telling me that Iâm not allowed to touch your religion, you are GATEKEEPING.
I hate when people try to make the LGBT+ community into this "tolerent" & "inclusive" fun group where everyone belongs. Our community was created out of necessity because of the the oppression we faced. We shouldn't be tolerant of discrimination of any kind. Our community is not for the oppressor. Transmisogynists do not belong. Racists do not belong. Fascists do not belong. Capitalists and corporations do not belong. You're not LGBT+ if you have chosen the side of the oppressor.
