Because Tumblr is very English speaking and some ppl like France a little too much I just want to remind you of a few things:

- France abolished the Code Noir 2 months ago. That law project that said hey you can enslave, mutilate, kill, cross breed, etc. black people at will bc they're not people they're property ? Yeah. Abolished 2 months ago. We are in July 2026.

- the last human zoo closed its doors in 1994 in France due to social pressure. Not bc they were running out of business, no. Ppl still visited that place until it closed its doors. - now while this might no longer be the case, when I was growing up, I went to a French school (as in. It was an international French School w the French flag n all) and the way we were taught French geography was that France has the biggest and largest access to the sea in the world. And they'd show us a map of France and its colonies around the world. It's all occupied indigenous lands. I don't know if they still teach that. I hope not. But they absolutely did until I graduated high school in 2017. Again, I write this on July 21st 2026, for the record.

I’d die on the hill that “stranger danger” is a deeply unhelpful mentality to have. “Ooooh everyone is out to get me they’re all gonna perpetrate harm that’s actually more likely to come from someone I already know. I better never talk to anyone in my community who I don’t already know, just to be safe. I’m sure there are no other biases interwoven with this mentality” like oh my god human traffickers do not just randomly spawn in every parking lot. You don’t have to go solo hitchhiking across the country but you also don’t have to live in fear that every guy on the street is the knife man who’s gonna get you. Like have situational awareness, yeah. But most of the time the guy on the street is not knife man he’s actually just a guy on the street and he’s probably pretty chill, and you’re driving yourself crazy by living in a constant state of unnecessary fear.

Like always safety comes first, especially if you’re in a marginalized group more likely to be targeted by random people around you. But that’s different from stranger danger. I might even say that stranger danger is something that contributes to marginalized groups getting targeted by random people. Which strangers do you find distrust worthy? Why? Does vague distrust justify harmful actions in the name of self defense? Stranger danger draws everyone away from more important issues of safety (underlying bigotries, systemic injustices, abuse in the home, etc) and towards an amorphous boogeyman that has no solution, because it’s not the real cause or culprit.

i have never in my life heard an adult or even teenager use “stranger danger”. it’s a motto for children to protect them from people who approach them whom they don’t know. it is so disingenuous to suggest that paranoia about public safety is unfounded. women especially are vilified for not being prepared in case of an attack, but if a woman is prepared, they’re paranoid and hate all men? i concede that most abuse is from someone you know. that doesn’t mean it’s completely useless or harmful to acknowledge the danger in being in public. every woman i know has a story about a public encounter with a man who disrespected or violated boundaries at the bare minimum. not naming the problem isn’t going to make it go away and dismissing real fear that is grounded in reality to suggest it’s a form of a systemic oppression is fucked up and intellectually dishonest

This is even more ironic knowing that Theodore Herzl was inspired by the Scramble for Africa and even proposed to Secretary of State for the colonizes, Joseph Chamberlain, the idea to colonize Cyprus or the Sinai Peninsula. Furthermore, in the Sixth World Zionist congress in 1903, Herzl proposed the Uganda Plan as a potential for Jewish colonization. However, the plan was ultimately rejected when they saw that the white settler colonizers in East Africa weren't so keen on sharing land with the Jewish colonizers, hence why they changed their focus to Palestine.

and in fighting antiblackness within canada and europe it is so so so important to acknowledge these places's participation in and benefit from the transantlantic slave trade. Slavery is not just the US's dirty past, it is a triangular industry lasting centuries that white people in the united states, canada, and europe benefitted from and continue to benefit from to this day. Slavery was good for white canadians and white europeans. They liked it. they encouraged it. they had slaves, they profited from the slave trade, and they used products grown from US slave labour in every day life. The slavery of Black people would not have been possible on the sheer scale at which it happened if it were not for active, consistent participation from europe and canada.

The Weill Cornell Medicine commencement was held earlier this month where a medical graduate from Gaza used his time on stage to condemn the university and its leadership for their complicity in the genocide on Gaza and implored his fellow graduates to stay true to their oath and stand with the hundreds of healthcare workers who have been killed by the IOF. Happy birthday, George Habash! (August 2, 1926)

A founder and leader of the Popular Front for the Liberation of Palestine (PFLP) and one of the most prominent Christians in the Palestinian struggle, George Habash, also known by the name al-Hakim meaning "doctor" or "wise man," served as General Secretary of the PFLP from 1967 to 2000. Born in al-Ludd in the British Mandate of Palestine, Habash was a medical student when the Nakba began and his family became refugees. Habash was influenced by Arab nationalist thinkers, and became active in political struggles while working as a doctor in Jordanian refugee camps. Habash was a proponent of ending Israeli settler colonialism by any means necessary, and founded the Arab Nationalist Movement to bring the Arab world together for that cause. Fleeing Jordan after being implicated in the alleged coup attempt of 1957, Habash founded the PFLP in 1964 as a regrouping of the ANM's Marxist elements, and in partial opposition to the Palestinian Liberation Organization under Yasser Arafat, who had sidelined Habash politically. The PFLP under Habash declared itself a Marxist-Leninist organization in 1969, and became prominent in the radical side of the Palestinian movement. Habash was a hardliner against compromise with Israel, adamantly opposing a two-state solution as acquiescence to colonialism. Accordingly, the adoption of the Oslo Accords led to the PFLP totally severing ties with the PLO, with Habash accusing Arafat of selling out the Palestinian people. However, the PFLP's influence diminished with Islamist groups gaining prominence on one side and Fatah on the other. Habash resigned his positions in 2000 due to failing health, although he remained influential in the PFLP and popular among Palestinians. He died in 2008.
