Love is unconditional

Relationships are not. It’s OK, therefore, to end a relationship with someone who loves us, as a result of what our partner has done even if there is real love in their hearts. We may still love them, but may not be able to live life with them for whatever reason. We need to be treated well, not just know someone loves us in their hearts. One the other side of the coin, a person may end a relationship with us no matter how much we love them if our expression of that love isn’t sustaining them. We have to see to their needs through skillful actions. In small ways and large we must be there for them, not just in our hearts, but in tangible ways. This includes unromantic things like picking up our dirty clothes and paying rent. Love is not enough for a relationship. It is necessary to guide and motivate our kindness, but it isn’t sufficient.
