Although at first, you might think wearing perfume makes you seem more polished, clean, and put together, fragrance can actually have the opposite effect during an interview.

As the story goes, nearly 400 years ago, Emperor Shah Jahan of India fell madly in love with Princess Mumtaz Mahal. To prove his eternal love and devotion to the princess, he built a large and magnificent garden for her and called the garden Shalimar.

When Princess Mumtaz Mahal died, he had a mausoleum built in her honor and called it Taj Mahal. This tale of undying love and devotion captivated the imagination of Jacques Guerlain, who then created Shalimar, a perfume that has remained popular for 90 years. Shalimar was the first scent to contain vanilla notes, creating a memorable benchmark among the perfumes of today.

4. Joy by Jean Patou

Released in 1929

Known for being the most expensive perfume in the world (priced at $600.00 for 40 mL), “Joy” was created by Jean Patou using 10,600 jasmine flowers and 28 dozen roses (per single ounce).
