Claiming autism communication struggles to be an "us vs them" problem and that we actually communicate just fine with other autistic people, dismisses and exludes autistics who actually do have impairments in their ability to communicate and socialise with everyone.
Autism social communication deficits are not an "us vs them" problem for many of us. It is an "I genuinely have struggles communicating with everyone" kind of problem.
Ignoring these struggles in other autistic people because you think it's a "them" problem is genuinely a discriminitory take.
hey fun fact, disabled people with bad relationships with their parents often don't get to leave those relationships.
when you are reliant on your parents for care, the amount you can do to stop them from treating you like shit, yelling at you for asking them for help etc. is very minimal.
even if you have never had a good relationship with them, if they are extremely abusive, in this world where disabled people are left to fend for themselves in fucked situations, we often don't get to leave the relationships that harm us and many of the community die because of that.
we don't get to leave our abusers because we rely on them for care and they hold that above us.
Marry My Stalker is short but the way that the main character reacts to the yanderes actions is so casual that it's almost frightening. All the characters seem to be in med school and thus the main character is quizzed on various medical terms, though you can usually guess your way through it and doesn't seem to really affect the route too much. I will note that this recommendation only covers chapter 1 since when I made this only the first chapter had been released.
The story starts out with Anne and her friend Marcia complaining about their classes and being in med. Marcia tries to get Anne to study, though she changes the subject.
If Anne talks about the graduation ball, Anne will catch that Marcia is still with her boyfriend (who she wants to break up with), while if she asks about Marcia's boyfriend, Dan a similar conversation will occur, leading to Anne revealing that she has not yet broken up with him despite saying so. It seems that Marcia has fallen for another one of Dan's lies while Anne continues to be greatly annoyed. Either way, this leads to Anne studying. Once Anne answers the questions, Marcia leaves and Anne prepares to sleep. It's revealed that Anne and Marcia are not close friends, they are mostly just friends by convenience as she needs someone to help her study medical. Before heading to sleep, she notices that someone has passed by her window but dismisses it.
The next day, Anne arrives in class and while there, another classmate named Arthur sits next to her. Anne finds Arthur annoying, viewing him as the kid who keeps asking questions and forces the class to be longer as a result. Regardless of how rude or polite Anne is, Arthur will sit next to her and Anne will get distracted because of how handsome he is. Arthur will notice the question she is working on and try to tutor her. Even though Anne is annoyed at how smart he is, she realizes that it is helping her with her own studies and even compliments him on his looks and brains, causing him to blush and for Anne to tease him. The two end up studying together for the rest of the day and Anne contemplates on asking if they want to continue to study together.
If she does, Arthur will agree and the next day, Arthur will help Anne study for the exam. Anne will still continue to be annoyed by Arthur's intelligence, though she starts to panic when she believes that the reason why he's helping her is because he has a crush on her, something that she asks outright, causing Arthur to blush. This will lead to Arthur testing Anne on various questions. Depending on how high Arthur's affections are for Anne, he will either bring her to a picnic in the woods. Anne who is not sure why he's being so nice to her asks if the two have met before, with Arthur reminding her that the two of them kissed during New Years while she was drunk. Upon this, Anne remembers and apologizes as during that time she was going through a breakup. Eventually when going back, Anne wants to hang out with him more and when the lights go off, the two stay for a bit longer. Arthur offers to charge Anne's phone while she studies a bit more, though after he returns it because they don't have the same charger (though Anne notices that it took him suspiciously long to realize that) and after going to the bathroom, she sneaks back quietly to find that Arthur is searching her bag. Initially she seems to wonder if he is out to kill her, but finds that he gets flustered at some black lace in her bag. She pretends to come in a bit later, where Arthur leaves everything in the exact spot. She later returns home, noticing that Arthur is following her, even remarking that she's out of practice as she would have likely noticed it if she was paying attention. Upon returning home, she starts looking to her phone trying to figure out what Arthur had put on there, remarking that it's exciting that she has a stalker.
Otherwise, if she decides to study alone, she will end up going home and upon going there, Marcia ends up calling her. It seems she called at a party and is currently drunk. While Marcia declines her offer to take her back, Anne uses the tracker she installed on her phone to come and get her. Marcia ends up changing her clothes as Anne gets annoyed that she hasn't broken up with Dan yet. Seeing as it's late, Marcia offers to let her sleep at her place for the night and allows her to borrow her clothes. This will lead to Anne asking Marcia about Dan.
If she pushes the topic, Anne will talk outright about how she needs to break up with him as the two aren't a good fit. This leads to Marcia recalling how the two originally met: at the first year party where Anne ends up throwing up all over Marcia. She talks about how Anne ended up dating an upperclassman but it didn't work out because he was too intense for her (though Marcia notes that it might have been the fact that she was afraid that he liked her too much), where Anne thinks about the possibility.
Afterwards the two play truth or dare where Marcia asks Anne to rate Dan out of 10. Depending on how Anne rates him, this will either lead to Anne asking Marcia's type or asking why she likes Dan out of anyone else. The former will have Anne respond with Arthur, leading to Marcia trying to call him, and the former will have Marcia reveal that he feels that Dan understands him. If she rates him really low, Anne will ask about who Marcia's type is which leads to Anne calling Marcia her type. This leads to Marcia kissing Anne, and later Dan comes at the door banging loudly. When she brings her in, Dan asks why Marcia hasn't stopped being friends with Anne before Anne is kicked out so that Marcia and Dan can talk.
The next day, Anne is excited to see Arthur again, though due to the talk with Marcia the day before, she doesn't really want to study. Arthur instead suggests that the two go to the basketball court to play football to play a couple of rounds, though she is reluctant to do so as she doesn't want to fail and doesn't understand why someone would try something without wanting to succeed. She ends up crying knowing that Marcia is so smart yet so stupid for staying with Dan. The two play for a bit and Anne feels sad that she might ruin Dan in the future.
If Marcia ends up calling Dan, Anne will wake up in the middle of the night to a sharp pain. She first notices Marcia sleeping peacefully next to her before seeing someone loom over her as she's unable to move. Finally, she sees Marcia's dead eyes stare at her as she's been killed in her sleep before Anne ends up falling asleep, sad and thinking about what Marcia meant to her. After finally being able to wake up and move, she ends up calling a man named Jeremy, telling her that there's a body next to her.
Marry My Stalker is not at all what I thought this game was about, but it is pretty unique, specifically because of the main character. As everyone knows, I'm a sucker for interesting main characters as it gives more nuance to the interactions with other characters within the game. Anne as a character seems to just be a normal med student in the beginning, but as the game goes on, it becomes obvious that she's anything but. She takes death, stalking and killing very casually, calling up someone to remove the body of Marcia without really feeling anything, making her remarks on killing Arthur out of annoyance seem much more viable than they would normally. She seems to have experience with stalkers as well, is much more tactical than she comes off, initially befriending Marcia mostly just to help her with homework, while also being careful when spying on Arthur. It seems that her father taught her hunting and has the mindset that anything that you do should be done for the sake of succeeding, and is able to track when someone is stalking her (though she is out of practice). My best guess is that her family is part of some mafia or gang group where these kinds of things are normal. Given that she's not that good at making friends, that her first instinct for killing seems so natural and that she is often deliberate in the things she does, as well as her dad's distaste for her being in medical, she probably decided to not take part in the family business. I guess this might also explain why she's annoyed and tired all the time since although she did choose this path for medicine, she also understands the risk she is taking while doing so. I also find it really cool that she is actually able to catch Arthur in the act of stalking and taking her stuff as well and find it exciting to do so. I think its possible that upperclassman she was dating (if he's not somehow Arthur or related) might also come into the picture in future updates as well.
Arthur is actually a pretty competent yandere if he had a more normal darling to be honest. From what we can tell, he likely fell in love with Anne when she kissed him at the new years party and has been following her around ever since. He probably has looked into her stuff multiple times and has been stalking her for a while. He also ends up killing Marcia if she decides to call him and drugs Anne. That being said his reactions to Anne's straightforwardness at times is very enduring and it's cute to see him try to cheer her up. So far though we don't really see too much about him, but he is apparently very smart when it comes to medical studies and he likes to learn more about it. I am curious to see what will happen given that Anne knows that he is stalking her and given the title of the game, it will be cool to see how the two end up getting involved with each other.
Speaking of medical studies, I was surprised to actually answer meidcal questions within the game. Most of them you can kinda guess based on context clues and afaik they don't really affect the routes other than Arthur calling Anne a good girl and Marina calling her smart otherwise. I'm not sure how the ending with Dan will go seeing that if she does die I guess Dan might end up trying to swear revenge, or maybe Anne will just straight up get Dan killed since he's been annoying her so much and she feels that he's holding back Marcia as she views her as very smart.
Overall, a generally interesting game that I did not expect. I like Anne as a main character and the entire premise of her being in medical school is a pretty fresh take. I hope to see more about Arthur in the future though as it would be neat to see how someone like Anne and Arthur interact more once they know each others secrets. It is pretty short but I think it's worth it to play.
There are so many people that are pro disability rights until they find out disabilities can be gross sometimes. It's so wild seeing the same people advocating for more mental health talk losing their shit over a depressed person not brushing their teeth or cleaning their spaces, or people who totally support physically disabled people until they find out I once pissed in a cup because I was in too much agony to get out of my bed, or that sometimes cups and food sit in my room longer than they should because I physically can't get up to put them away. Disabled people sometimes have incontinence, disabled people sometimes have bad hygiene, and still deserve to be supported. It's so fucking performative and it pisses me off. Even other disabled people act like this. Shaming people for stuff they can't control doesn't help anyone, just makes you an insufferable person.
For those who don't understand, EBT are food stamps (government money for buying food for low-income people). Because the money is from the government, it comes with horrific restrictions, one of which is you cannot buy "prepared" food with it. You can only buy raw chicken, not cooked chicken, for example.
This kitchen is getting around that stupid rule by selling you raw, unprepared chicken, and then charging your EBT account for raw, unprepared chicken.
Then as a side thing, totally unrelated, they cook the chicken for free. Since you bought raw chicken with the EBT, it's legal. There's no law against cooking people's raw chicken for free for them. That's just charity.
This kitchen is a blessing to anyone who doesn't have a kitchen of their own.
