What he saw in the palantir was the vision of Gondor falling and his son dying. His lost time with his sons flew by in a second as the enemy seemed to have guessed what he regretted most- his time as Steward stole more time away from his sons.

Denethor's eyes blurred with unshed tears that this could be the end of his time and lands. How could he let this come to be?

In anger and anguish, he would not bear to let the enemy come and slay him; he would choose his own course of how to die.

Why did he delay too long? The Fellowship taking too much time deciding which path to go which was clear in Frodo’s mind long ago?

As Frodo thought this, hopelessness forced him to complete despair and darkness washed over him. Why was it even worth it to keep going? Was there any point?

A voice from the Shire woke him in his swoon. “Mr. Frodo!”

Frodo dug deep within and was resolute. He had come so far, he could not turn back. He had to keep going for himself now, not to prove to anyone. He must see it through.
