I looked up raceplay on tumblr to see the kind of content that was being made, but it was all posts slamming the kink. I don't know too much about raceplay because I don't think I've seen proper content for it, but I saw posts comparing it to ageplay or cnc as "equally bad" (which already makes me go, ah, we're dealing with those kinds of bigots) and posts saying that if you have a kink for dehumanising a group you're not part of then you're a bigot. as a feminist man with a misogyny kink and a dykebreaking kink, I think that's an ignorant take on those kinds of power dynamics in kink. (it is, by the way, a little strange that I have rarely seen critiques of the kink in the miso kink tag, but that was all that was in the raceplay tag. but that's a whole other topic that feels similar to the transgender vs transrace debate)
I have absolutely come across real misogynists with a miso kink (their posts are significantly less hot cuz there's just somethin about coming at it with a thorough understanding of feminism), and I'm sure there are real racists with a raceplay kink. I want those folks to educate themselves, but only because I think everyone should unlearn their bigotry (plus it would probably make their kinks more fun to engage with & would ensure that they seek explicit consent from their partners). you cannot declare that a kink itself and everyone with the kink is bad. you could be the wokiest wokester and still get off to raceplay, miso kink, etc., or be the bigotiest bigot and not find those things hot. your kinks have nothing to do with your morals
it's very much like the transharmful debate. there is a big difference between what you think/feel & what you do in consensual situations vs how you non-consensually treat others. one of the basic principles of bdsm is that doms must care for their subs and there must be continuous consent from all parties involved. if someone is engaging in raceplay, it's ideally because they and their partner/s have discussed what works for them, they understand the real history of racism and the impacts of present-day racism, they want to do this with each other, they are open to the consequences, and prepared to support each other if things go sideways (same goes for ageplay, cnc, miso kink, etc etc etc)
plus, if you're okay with only those in the affected groups getting off to degradation/dehumanisation of that group but not anyone else, that doesn't always work for kinks like this. you can't get mad at biastophiles but accept autobiastophiles, you can't get mad at caregivers but accept adult babies, you can't get mad at men with miso kinks but accept women with it, you can't get mad at white folks with raceplay kinks but accept POC with it. why? because subs need doms, and subs who actually have those kinks are most likely very happy when they find a dom who isn't hiding out of shame (for example I often see lesbians withOUT a dykebreaking kink complaining about men who have a dykebreaking kink, but I never see lesbians WITH a dykebreaking kink complaining about it because that is literally what they want) (and yes you could for instance have a wlw couple roleplay miso kink, no you don't "need" men, but that is A. not the point, and B. not everyone's preference). in some instances of raceplay, it's flipped so the white one is submissive, and in that case I especially don't see what's racist about that (you could say "wah but why is someone getting off to being treated in a way they don't experience in the real world but others do?" and to that I say I don't care why someone has the kinks they do because we don't know where any attractions come from, and if it's consensual I don't careeee, I hope they all have fun)
whatever happened to ykinmykbykio (your kink is not my kink but your kink is okay)? there is not a single kink that that does not apply to. if it's consensual, I do not care if someone kills and eats their partner, and I wish them all the best. there is nothing wrong with finding something attractive, what's important is the way you engage with it
