Low RP Activity Notice

This will be reblogged to all of my RP sideblogs.  I’ve had great experiences with a handful of people here, and I’ve treasured the times and threads and conversations that I’ve had as well.  But as a whole my time RPing on Tumblr has been, to put it shortly, terrible.  I’ve had many more negative experiences than I have positive by far and every time I even try and think about coming back, I can see no reason to.  I’ve been gaslit, s*icide baited, lied to and forced to take sides on things I never should have been dragged into in the first place, and that’s just some of the stuff that’s happened.  It doesn’t exactly leave the greatest impression on someone.

That being said I do want to come back someday.  I don’t know when that’s going to be.  I’ll try and check my PMs and respond just as I’ve been doing for all my sideblogs, and if you want to try and plot with me I’m more than open.  My muses are still as strong as ever and likely will never die.  But right now I tend to avoid this site as a whole for various reasons.

That’s all.  Just thought I’d let you know.

// So I finally, finally got around to watching Black Sails thanks to @deathisachoice / @rumdaydreams and co., and, well, I have some shadows of ideas now???  So???  If anyone wants to just ramble-plot with me about a potential Decimus-is-a-pirate-and-we’re-fucked verse, or just anything that has to do with the Black Sails verse, hmu.

These days the masterlists for fandoms like Black Sails and Pirates of the Caribbean are years old and out of date, no longer being updated at all. Some fandoms like Aubrey-Maturin, Hornblower & Turn: Washington’s Spies don’t even have any lists that can be easily unearthed. This is the solution to all of those problems.

“And that may very well be so,” Decimus answered wearily, “but it makes no difference if they remain convinced that you did.”  As far as he himself was concerned, Decimus bore no grudge against the young midshipman, even though Blakeney was remarkably bright for his age and Decimus, who was twenty years of age, had yet to pass his Examination for Lieutenant.  In fact, it made him that much more determined to do what he could for the young Lord - he knew what it was, to be suspected of something that you had no hand in, and the surrounding pressure, without an ally, could quickly drive one quite mad.

“Tell me, who has been saying these things?”  It wouldn’t help, most likely - rumors spread on ships almost as fast as the Plagues themselves and once they started, there was nothing to be done but to wait for said whispers to die off, quietly, and on their own.  Which was a process that could take an arduously long time, on certain occasions, Decimus remembered with a wince - but at least if he knew all there was to know about what started this whole mess, then it would be easier to determine where to go from there.  

It could have been a small nuisance or a serious accusation borne entirely of paranoia - but either way, whatever it was sure looked as if it had been enough to shake young Blakeney.

Decimus shrugged, not able to find it within himself to disagree.  Hudson definitely wasn’t wrong - he doubted that either of them had expected to be holed up in this damn stronghold for months at a complete and utter impasse, and even more surprising was the respect that they had somehow managed to gain for each other.  Or so it had seemed, at the very least, from Decimus’ end of things.  His interrogator-now-conversation-partner was absolutely ruthless, and likewise, Decimus gave up nothing.  There was no telling how long things would continue like this, nor if a break in the pattern was even possible in the first place.

“I suppose that’s true,” he eventually replied, raising a thin eyebrow,  “It’s not too often that you’re taken prisoner for months on end.”

pavel peered from where he stood shrouded in the irregular shadows of the alleyway. there was a british officer with white hair nearly ginger in the light of the foggy lamp posts. he hummed to himself with finality; the brit was in the predetermined place at the predetermined time in the predetermined uniform. though he was a bit confused, he supposed that if he suspected the agent the crown would send, that would be a liability to both parties.

he stepped out, fingers fiddling at his cane, ready to unsheathe the blade beneath if the meeting proved to be faulty.

“i was expecting higher ranked man,” pavel said warily. “but it is of no consequence. the kremlin gives their compliments to crown. do you have what i need?” the letters he had plucked from the very escritoire of marquis florent pierre - louis dechamp in his apartment were tucked safely in pavel’s pocket.

“Indeed I do,” Decimus smoothly replied, his eyes never once wavering.  He did not need to check again - the pouch and the envelope, the contents of which were highly classified, of course, were stowed away within the folds of his coat, and Decimus had not dared to so much as even reach in their direction until he had reached the agreed-upon location.  “Perhaps you would like to inspect the contents of the items elsewhere.”  

It was all part of the plan, of course - they would move, one after the other, discreetly, to a place where they would not be seen, not even by accident or coincidence.  Decimus himself was not even aware of what the packages he carried contained - an extra layer of security, he thought, and one that was rather carefully planned on his superiors’ part.  He was to act, tonight, as a mere messenger - to show up, to complete the exchange, and to depart just as quietly as he had come.

a faint smile whispered across his lips as he looked down at the officer. the longshoremen’s plan of kidnapping a british commander had been hasty and impulsive at best, but after one of their own had been impressed on the very same ship, there were bitter feelings that needed to be quelled. at least the revolutionaries had a sympathetic tavern - keeper who was supportive of their cause and whose regard for the law was little.

light filtered into the tavern cellar from the creaking planks above, almost as bright as the flickering lanterns that hung by the cellar door. hudson shifted his weight from what foot to the other and the straw crinkled under his shoes. “we’ll get what information we can out of you,” he said, “and we’ll see how many shining shillings mother england’ll pay for you, for our troubles. and if george is too stingy, you’ll share the same fate as your tea and end up at the bottom of the fuckin’ harbour.”

“I do wish you,” Decimus said, with a cold, emotionless tone that very clearly indicated that he would be utterly unmovable, “the best of luck in your hopeless endeavor, then.”  You’ll need it, he thought bitterly - because he was not of high rank, there was nothing of much consequence to be lost through him.  He had just received his commission as Lieutenant, there was little attributed to his name save for that - hardly worth any trouble at all.

The prospect of plunging down, weighted forever beneath the waves - it didn’t scare him, but he suspected that would catch up to him eventually.  It always was like this, the emptiness and then the sudden panic that would rush to fill the void when said stagnancy eventually decided to depart.

Again, he tested the bonds that were wrapped tightly around his wrists and over the backs of his knees, forcing him into a rather cramped and uncomfortable position where the wood beneath was biting the bones of his knees and legs at all the wrong angles - and still nothing, just as it had been the last time.  He didn’t know what he had expected.  As unorganized as these men seemed to be, they clearly had a goal - his capture - and at the very least, they had been thorough in chasing after it.

Decimus raised one thin eyebrow in reply, hoping that his feigned coolness would cover up the utter internal panic that had started up within him.  This was getting more and more confusing by the second - first she was his captor, and now she intended to be his savior?  This had to be some kind of strange mind game that she was attempting to play, he thought - for he had heard of tactics like this, the gaining and careful exchange of trust as if it were currency (which was something he could never abide).

“I am faring just fine.”  He kept his voice even, and was proud of it - enough to air on the side of polite, but not quite so much that he had lowered himself to submissiveness to a pirate Captain.  It mattered not that she was much more well-mannered than the rest of them - she was still an enemy, their kinds wanted the other dead.  “But I must warn you that if you intend to use my person as some sort of bargaining tool that it will not work.”  

The Navy did not sway so easily.  Had he been a Captain or a higher-ranked officer, perhaps they would have considered him worth saving - but as of now he was a lone survivor amongst many, most likely presumed dead already.  He had long since known that there was no one coming for him now.

“I think you’ve done a lot more than that, sir!”  Decimus stood, bowing his head awkwardly at the last second (he was tall and the beams hung low) - “you’ve disrupted the routine of a ship of the line, and - !”  He broke off into a series of stammered words, absolutely bewildered by this strange situation.  Here was this man who looked half real and half figment, saying words that he did not know and acting as if Decimus was the one who was being deliberately strange.  The nerve!

“It is the twenty-sixth year of the nineteenth century - “ and then the possibility happened upon him - “good God, are you drunk?”  The Kestrel was not as large as some of the other ships that he’d served upon in the past, but the chance that he had not seen this face yet among those of the crew was always there.

Warily, Decimus eyed the hand that had been extended towards him as if convinced that a knife or pistol was to be pulled on him at any second now, even though he knew his hesitation was borne from more than that.  No - it seemed far too good to be true, not to mention that this man was likely very drunk and also very lost.  

But then again, Decimus was armed - and this man was not.  There was no real harm that could befall him with a simple touch - and ultimately, against all better judgement, Decimus conceded.

“Very well,” he whispered, and then, forcing himself to look up, he slipped his hand into the other’s.

Decimus did know, he supposed - but what was one to say when an officer, and a superior officer at that, asked him such a question?  He’d never been told about this or trained for it and it didn’t help that he had to translate every damn sentence in his head before saying it - twice, of course, to make sure that nothing horribly wrong came out.

“I - I think I do know what you mean, sir,” Decimus said carefully, as that was as close towards the truth that he would dare to nudge, for now.

reblog if you're okay with writing one night stands and casual hookups

           Alright, I need a some help. I have a muse who’s not shippable in any sort of long-term way. Who can’t handle a real relationship and, frankly, doesn’t necessarily want one. More comfortable with casual sex than anything lasting or meaningful, but I always feel bad about it, because shipping is so important in the RPC.

I’d really love it if folks would reblog this if they’re comfortable with writing casual sexual encounters that don’t have to lead to a fluffy, romantic relationship. <3
