āExcuse me for being so intellectual. I know you would prefer something nice and feminine and affectionate.ā

Hi Gina!! Hope youāre doing well! š So Iāve now seen Louis twice, once last tour and just last night (which was an absolutely amazing time) and Iāve noticed both times that his voice in person is higher pitched than I usually hear it. In any videos heās ever been in, like concert videos, interviews, his prerecorded music, his voice sounds deeper than it does in person.
And Iām just wondering why that is? Like are my ears deceiving me? Or does every video Iāve ever watched of him (including the videos I took myself last night) misrepresent how his voice actually sounds? Is that even possible?
Now Iāve never had the opportunity to meet him face to face so I canāt account for how his voice sounds without a microphone projecting it. But maybe that sounds slightly different in person vs videos too, I donāt know.
Iām not sure if youāll know the answer but maybe someone who reads this might know? Thanks!!
Hi darling. I'm so glad you had such a good time. It looked like it was a great show!
And I don't know the answer to your question at all. Maybe @alarrylarrie has some thoughts on his voice/the mic situation? Or anyone else?
Youāre not wrong!
So, a couple of things. Louis pitches all of his songs down just a hair. Not a lot! Just a little bit. He does this to save his voice - performing night after night is grueling, even on seasoned vocal cords like his.
Second- the sound from his mic is being mixed by the audio engineer, and often they will pitch it down because itās a bit more pleasant on our ears AND easier to hear in larger, more crowded spaces.
Third- there is something called āthe proximity effect.ā This is something that happens to everyone, when you are super close to a microphone, it picks up the lower timbre/pitch of your voice because the amplifying device inside a microphone inherently boosts bass/lower frequencies. It is doing something called āmuddyingā his voice, itās often why he pulls the mic down when he has to belt high, heās worried he might be flat and the mic will amplify that.
In person he gets to use his natural voice, and heās often doing interviews in radio studios. In those situations, āpodcastā mics/studio mics/lav mics are CRAZY sensitive to any and all sound, but especially higher frequencies, because there isnāt much distance for the sound waves to reverberate (bounce around) in the studio.
In true person, though Iāve never met him, I think his voice is pitched up because heās excited (and sometimes a little nervous) to be so close to fans. We all tend to go into a little higher pitch when presented with something that makes us happy. Thereās a reason they call it āsquealing with delight.ā
Anyway! I hope this helps some!
imposter you were my biggest surprise this album I love you so much
Louis on stage at the How Did We Get Here? Tour in Miami - 24.07
š£| āIt's his birthday! Give it up for Zac, come on! How's everyone doing, you alright? It's the part of the show I like to remind you how fucking important every single person in here is to me, you know?
I've felt it a lot on this tour. This is the kind of fan base where every single person makes such a big fucking difference on my life and my professional career. I'll forever be grateful, thank you so much.
But also, also these... these shows don't happen, right? There's a big team of us. I got my band here, I got plenty of crew. And I just want to say, this is the last show of the tour, so I just want to say a general thank you to all of my band, obviously. And also to the crew. They work really fucking hard, they bring the shows to you guys. Give it up for the fucking crew, go!
Thank you to all the supports that joined me for this gig. It's an absolute honor to share the stage with you. Thank you, thank you, thank you! I feel really grateful today... little bit merry as well!ā

Another day on here, another opportunity to deploy this:
