A Not So Normal Life - Chapter 2
A continuation of the memoir of my life with Mark. As I noted with Chapter 1 - Endings and Beginnings, this work is made up of both mine and Mark’s writing. This chapter is essentially his with some comments by me - his work is written in italics here (and will be in future chapters).
I want to thank everyone for the wonderful responses I have received so far. I hope you will continue to like the book.

Humor is the bucket used to bale out our boat when confronted with the difficulties of daily life that threaten to sink it. A good sense of humor seemed the logical choice to top the list of qualities I would seek in a life partner. Unfortunately, as I walked along the path of my maidenhood, I usually found myself hooked up with men that I had to cheer up. While I do have an agile sense of the absurd and have a funny moment or two, my cheering up abilities slant more toward nurtury rather than comedy.

But, even as they touted their comedic credentials I found myself being courted by a slew of men Dostoyevsky might have created.
Mark seemed different; most everyone that knew him talked about how funny he was—what a great sense of humor he had. If he let out the loud honking bark that was his signature, you were forced to laugh yourself—even if what he said wasn’t particularly funny. The shock of the sound itself and Mark’s pleasure in emitting it were more powerful than any bad joke. According to his diary, to be funny was his goal in life.
