I'm rewatching GG and I still don't understand the obsession with Chuck.
What did people like so much about him? He's not dark, he's twisted — and there's a big difference between the two. In just the first episode, he sexually assaulted two girls, constantly acts superior, is manipulative, sadistic, selfish. He's horrible to his friends, treats them like garbage, and constantly uses Blair for his weird games, even though he supposedly loves her deeply — and I ask myself… what's so great about him? I absolutely don't understand what Blair sees in him, what she could possibly love about him when he treated her like trash most of the time?
Their relationship was one big emotional rollercoaster that made no sense. Chuck was a selfish manipulator—he only wanted Blair when he couldn't have her, and when he did, he either betrayed her or pushed her away. And Blair? She kept giving him chance after chance, even though she knew he would only hurt her again.
And that whole “epic love story” felt more like a toxic addiction than a real relationship. It was an endless push and pull—when one wanted the other, the other didn’t, and vice versa. Yet the writers kept forcing it as if it were some kind of grand romance. Honestly, Blair had much better chemistry with Dan, at least their connection was deeper and more meaningful.
Blair deserved so much better. Best match for her would be Nate or Dan.
Don't get me wrong, I love Caroline's character and I love her mom very much. On the one hand, Caroline deserved to move on and put her past behind her, but I think she could have done it without going to save the man who ab-sed and r@ped her when she was 17 (it happened, but not many people want to hear it) and using her MOM, who was probably the most important person in her life, to forgive him because he was friendly with her. How she could be friendly with someone who did this to her daughter is also a long story. In general, what happened to Caroline was trivialized by the creators, as if it was nothing.
Why did it have to be about Caroline having to forgive Damon just because she loves her mom more than she hates him? Literally nothing that Damon did, except for Liz's funeral, which I don't understand why he spoke at, was the first time he was nice to Caroline from the very beginning? It didn't last anyway.
Sorry, he treated Caroline like trash from the start. He r@ped her, manipulated her, assaulted her, drank from her. And what did he do after that? He tried to kill her. And then her dad and assaulted her again. She had a big reason to hate him and treat him like trash. He had none towards her. And he also used her mom, whom he manipulated and who for some reason didn't mind what he did to her daughter. In general, almost no one minded it, except Stefan and Elena, and even Elena slutshammed her in season four, because she needed to justify in her head why she was sleeping with someone who hurt everyone she loved with his humanity on, including the m-rder of her brother. Yes, Elena was trash in season 4.
Damon did absolutely nothing to redeem him from what he did to Caroline and how he treated her after he did it. If it weren't so trivialized, it would be a complete horror story.
Apparently, the fact that they both liked Liz Forbes is a redemption for Damon. And Stefan had to die for everything he did. Yeah, that's what we call balance, right.
I'll be completely honest now. I've never understood and never will understand what's so appealing about a couple of Stydia and I've really tried very hard and I'll explain why.
!!!!!
I'm trying to be super objective and I do not write this to hurt anybody, I just share my personal opinions and feelings. But if you are more sensitive and that's ok and you love the couple, scroll down. If you will be toxic and agressive, then be aware that I have no intentions to deal with you, you either accept it or not, but if you can't express yourself as a decent human being, scroll down too. If you are open to someone's perspective, go ahead and read.
!!!
1. Trope "One has a crush on the other since childhood".
I've never been a big fan of these couples, of course there are cases where it makes sense, but these are couples where they're close friends, a classic nineties one, where two people have known each other since childhood, they're important in their lives. That rapprochement, even if friendly, just created that love. However, there was nothing to create with Lydia and Stiles, Lydia wasn't interested in his existence and Stiles rather gave the impression of a creep who is superficially obsessed with the girl, including how perfect, beautiful and smart she is in every way, but there's not a deeper connection to her essence. Of course, since she didn't notice him, he could only watch her and not really get to know her. Because Lydia is at the same time caring, cynical, she has a lot of flaws, but that's okay, that's what makes her Lydia, but I feel like he didn't see it at first and couldn't because, I repeat, he wasn't in her close circle, he didn't know her. It was just a fantasy.
2. Chemistry.
At best, it felt like sibling chemistry to me, and that's paradoxically what I loved about them. Lydia was so maternal and sisterly, and their whole chemistry, while cute, wasn't strong enough to sustain a relationship, it worked well on a friendly level. Plus, it would be a good indication of Stiles actually growing up and having a real relationship with a real girl that's mutual and fulfilling, rather than still being obsessed with his childhood crush.
Someone who likes them might take that as staying true to their "love" with all their heart, but from my perspective, it's a terrible step backwards. Being obsessed with your childhood crush when you're already in a real relationship - you do not do this and most importantly, it just doesn't make sense, and it's yet another reason why Malia was totally mistreated and as a Lydia fan, I'll protect this girl at all cost.
3. The writing.
A less extensive but essential detail is the writing of the relationship, where they always left the back door open, however, following the twitter of one of the writers, how much they wrote that Stiles loved Malia and how the kiss between Lydia and Stiles was just about friendly help, so that in the following season they would use it as a building block for their relationship...even though it doesn't make sense, because right after the kiss Lydia was able to throw herself at Aiden, then build a bond with Jordan, there was actually nothing to indicate that her perspective would change in any way. They decided to write that in later, when they decided to go ahead and finally make it happen. They used because it could have been used with different interpretation, but when you already know how they wrote it, you do not believe it unless you are really really into that you do not care.
I probably don't even need to talk about the issue of kissing someone during a panic attack.
4. Overrated
This couple is kinda glorified, but they did not always treat each other nicely. It's not like it's a problem for me, but I see opinions like Stiles was always nice and they did no wrong. Yes, they did..
5. Malia
Well, that's also a thing, because I could see Stiles work in real relationship and see positive changes on both sides, mutual love, a real on-screen relationship, it was nice to see. But someone decided to throw it under the bus, make one of the pointless breakups ever and return to childhood crush. It was out of blue. We could see more scenes where Lydia and Stiles hang out and are actually getting closer, like see it in their performance, but the only thing close to it was the end of season when the gang saved Lydia from Eichen house, but their other scenes were pretty regular. Season six started with Stiles obsession renewed, but Lydia was still the same until he disappeared and the she suddenly loved him and had more connection with him than everyone else? Like more than Malia, Stiles was her anchor, more than his best friend and brother figure Scott, more than his own FATHER? That was so lame writing, honestly they did not even try. They just threw what might look likable. Sorry, but I saw Wattpad stories looking better than this. They could connect some things, so they did it. If I were their fan, I guess I would be happy they are together no matter how they did it. But as someone, who never had much taste for that ship, I see it as very rushed and lame, quite lazy to find something. It would make sense for Lydia to be "the moment when it all changed" how Stiles saved her. But of course, there is no kiss, it's a team work including Jordan, but yeah, here it would make sense, we also could see after how she's grateful to him and he earned her respect, but nah, let's put that toxic panic attack kiss, who had no influence on how story kept going and was not even mentioned later...
Summary.
So, I guess I could write endless rants about this couple.
I think it had excellent potential to be a strong friendship. I enjoyed watching it.
It's a teen drama, so there's always room for romance between everyone. However, it's just and I'm being brutally honest now- fanservice. Just throw a bone and eat. Why else would it rely on the biggest clichés, everything was so rushed on Lydia's part, when it had the opportunity to build on that friendship and mutual respect? No, suddenly it's all back again, I had a crush on you and I couldn't get over it. And Lydia suddenly fell in love because the script said so. The potential was there, but poorly executed.
Was anyone surprised that Malia didn't miss Lydia at all?
As someone who has always loved Lydia, I have to say - it was about time.
Lydia treated Malia like a pest and trash from the very beginning, without any adequate reason for it.
And that's not the worst part. Malia still loved Stiles, even after he broke up with her...and I don't really understand the reason either, she just didn't want to judge him and that was probably wrong. The most pointless breakup ever.
Well, Lydia continues to treat Malia like trash, plus she wanted the guy Malia loved and Lydia knew it. But she still felt okay treating her like this, plus starting with the guy Malia still loved, but still somehow did not expect any animosity. Ok, in that case there's no room for any favors, get out of her sight..No, not even shit! Lydia goes to Malia, who wants to go to Paris, and forces her to stay because for some reason you need her help (so you know, Malia is super strong, resilient, definitely a useful team player) and she still has the audacity to roll her eyes at Malia wanting to do something for herself after all this time? Eh.
Okay. So maybe Lydia will change her behavior, since she treated her disgustingly and also has a part in her heartbreak (which of course, Malia and Stiles weren't together, she didn't have to be considerate, but in that case she shouldn't have expected anything), so maybe her attitude will change a little. Well, definitely not significantly. Lydia figured out how important Malia is, but her constant eye rolling made it pretty clear that her view hasn't changed much.
And then years later, Lydia throws herself around Malia's neck, how much she missed her, as if they were friends before. And Malia of course realized during that time how toxic her "friendship" with Lydia was and that's why she didn't miss her for a moment. That's one of the few things that makes sense about the Teen Wolf movie, in my opinion.
And if anyone has any comments, I'd just like to point out that Lydia also threw herself at Scott and knew very well that Allison had feelings for him.
Don't get me wrong, Lydia is probably my favorite female character from TW, but I don't want to blindly pretend that she was a saint and that Malia's character was not treated badly. And when you add that Malia tried really hard to be Lydia's friend after she went through some recovery, it's just disgusting.
Say what you want about Malia, that she's annoying, rude or even worse, but she literally the character with the highest possible tolerance when comes to a$sholes around her and being mistreated by people she trusted, after she spent years in her coyote form and had difficulty to bond with people, because of her trauma and isolation for so damn long. Of course, she is not perfect, she definitely was not perfect, but she was mistreated.
For me, while I desperately wanted to believe it when I was a teen, Malia and Lydia weren't friends.
Question for the ones who were adults or teens in early 00's.
I rewatch One Tree Hill and one thing simply does not give me any sense.
Haley was a literal self-made rockstar/popstar and the smartest chick of the school. She achieved more than anyone in their 16-17 years. How is that she's getting bad eye, bully and mockery from girls who are literal kids of rich parents (Rachel is probably the greatest example) and who literally did nothing to have their wealth and even in Rachel's case, her whole hot body and face are results of surgeries paid by her rich parents, while Haley does not need any of it to look good (yet Rachel called her fat). How that makes her more valuable than Haley?
I love Rachel tbh, but this is simply nothing I won't understand. Were things really that way between young people?
I'm just rewatching One Tree Hill and I still can't believe they put so much effort to bring Brooke and Lucas back, literally giving us hints that they are the true ones, same as Peyton and Jake....just to threw it all away. Peyton being fine and cheering for Brooke and Lucas. F it, let's bring the mess back.
Peyton's mom saying that Peyton's heart is broken for the true love (Jake). F it.
This kind of drama annoys me. Why all of the would do the same mistakes, AGAIN?
I do not buy that Lucas just ran from his feelings for Peyton, they spent whole summer together, they had enough of time to realize they love each other without dragging Brooke into it.
And Brooke, seriously? She wanted Lucas to fight for her while she was doing a bunch of dudes? Not saying she could not, but it's just me who find it a bit....demotivating?
Sorry, why the need to play with Brooke's heart like that, AGAIN?
