in the way that sky cotl is the only game i've played that understands what i want flight to feel like, gw2 is the one of the few games i've played that understands what i want animal mounts to feel like and be in the world. even outside of their mechanics, there's a little latency and weight to their movements but not enough to be inconvenient. with raptors you're really just throwing yourself around, lurching at sudden stops. there are boss fights where you get on one of your ground mounts and throw a chain at the giant enemy's legs and run in a circle and you can actually see the chain tangling around and around the enemy's legs until they're incapacitated. THIS is being an animal rider in a fantasy world. when you mount up inside a quest, all the NPCs mount up too, and their mounts have colors tailored by character, so they're not all getting on a generic brown journeykin warclaw. you're riding out with your crew and they've all got their own mounts. which is what i wanted

Listen, I love gw2!! I really really really do! But it says everything it needs to that in the expansion directly featuring Asura, and diving into the worst aspects of their culture + how the inquest evolved from that

they BROUGHT Canach along for the story

and they haven't... done anything with the absurdly tragic backstory they wrote for him that heavily (and more then once!!) features Asura doing horrific things to him and those around him.

Instead he's a weirdly heartless capitalist running a pub.

(I'm not saying they couldn't still actually bother to build on it and give us a satisfying story, I really REALLY hope they do, but given how many plot lines (especially sylvari plot lines, weird/annoyingly enough) they've just ignominiously dropped and never looked twice at... I don't have particularly high confidence that they will.)
