"immortality sucks because all your friends die" all your friends die anyway. those we do not mourn are those who mourn us.
"immortality sucks because you forget who you are" we always forget who we are. do you remember who you were at four years of age? who you were at fourteen? "who i am" is a shadow cast on the wall.
"immortality sucks because" skill issue. skill issue. skill issue. give me your liver
Sorry, the eagles took it. You can have it when it grows back tho
There are hardly any female werewolves because they break all the classic rules of femininity. They force you to confront female violence, strength, size, grotesqueness and uncontrollability. Historically female shapeshifters always shift into something dangerous (snake) or sleek (cat) or dainty (bird) but female werewolves ignore the masculine gaze completely. They're distorted beasts that have no ulterior motive except to destroy. Nothing about them is nurturing or modest. They're the opposite of what a woman "should be." Their omission from pop culture is not an accident.
I know this is maybe not the point of the post, but this reminded me of this beautiful poem called When My Wife Is A Werewolf by Rosamund Taylor which I really adore so I thought I would share it.
This is taken from a collection of contemporary queer Irish poetry called Queering the Green, which has some truly wonderful work in it and is available from The Lifeboat Press (currently sold out but hopefully available again soon if you're interested).
from female-rage coursing through my blood at the world to the thing with feathers that has perched on my soul

CHASE (the) SUN-DAYS
if you saw my name, would you remember me?
do you think of me the way i think of you when i remember the coat racks at school or the spider willow we made in year 5?
“Why complicate life? Missing somebody? - Call. Wanna meet up? - Invite. Wanna be understood? - Explain. Have questions? - Ask. Don’t like something? - Say it. Like something? - State it. Want something? Ask for it. Love someone? - Tell it. We just have one life. Keep it simple.”

But what if they don't answer and what if they don't want to meet. But what if they don't understand and what if they don't like the probe. what if they like the thing and what if they stop liking me.
What if all I want is love but they don't want to love me back?

WHEN SOMEONE REMEMBERS I LIKE SMTH AND BRINGS IT UP AND ASKS ME ABT IT AND-
Last year, I was talking with my mom about parenting and she said "well at least I never made you feel like I didn't love you"
I proceeded to tell her about a time when I was a kid and she was yelling, screaming, and throwing things, and I said "I love you" in that small timid kid voice and she said
"well I don't love you right now"
Our relationship was never the same after that and she didn't even remember that it happened.
The axe forgets, the tree remembers.
“You remember that?”
It was a formative experience of my life. For you it was Tuesday.
hahaha
