MIGHTY EAGLE MOUNTAIN

Mighty Eagle Mountain is the highest peak on Bird Island. It is an ancient and mythical location that all the birds know about, but have never been. The moment when Red, Chuck, and Bomb see The Lake of Wisdom for the first time needed to be epic and majestic. So we designed natural infinity pools that sparkle and cascade through a blanket of clouds. Also included are some posters that hang in Mighty Eagle's cave. He is quite a vain character and collects memorabilia of himself.

PIG CITY

Pig City was a blast to design. The Pigs are compelled to expand and develop. They are not the brightest of creatures so whatever they build is topsy-turvy, very illogical. Piggy Island is the opposite of Bird Island. The pig world is manmade while the bird world is organic. The pigs have technology like electricity, TNT, and airplanes while the birds are more primitive and natural. This concept was painted early on to help establish how The Angry Birds game could be brought to life.

RED’S HUT

Red is a loner. He is the angry bird amongst a village of happy birds. Red likes his solitude so he built his hut on the beach away from the village. We wanted the design of Red’s Hut to contrast all the other huts. While all the other birds live in soft nest-like huts, Red’s hut is made of harden mud stucco. This seemed to be a nice correlation to his thick-skinned personality. If Red was an animal other than a bird, he’d be a porcupine. His garden is full of cacti and a giant spiky palm tree grows right next his front door as if to say ‘Stay Out!’

Sony Pictures Imageworks did an amazing job of translating my 2D painting into a beautiful 3D set.

The best part of being the Production Designer of The Angry Birds Movie is collaborating with so many talented artists. This was truly a labor of love and the look of picture shows it. I want to take this opportunity to thank the amazing Art Department.

These images show our environmental design process. From rough sketches, to paintings, to pre visualization, to CG modeling, to look dev, to lighting keys, and to the final frame. This is a massive collaboration between many artists. TODD HEAPY led our in-house Pre Visualization team. THE ANGRY BIRDS MOVIE This weekend the Angry Birds Movie premieres! It has been an amazing experience being the Production Designer of this film. I've had the honor collaborating with an extremely talented group. I want to thank John Cohen, Catherine Winder, Clay Kaytis, Fergal Riley and the rest of the team for the trust and support.

Here is a small sample of my work from the film. Stay tuned as I'll be sharing more in-depth details of how we transformed the popular mobile game series into a spectacular world. Now go see the movie!
