Damon loved Katherine. At some point in time, Katherine loved him right back. I always knew they had potential, but then I also knew that the writers would never explore it. Their love story could have been beautiful; it WAS beautiful (forget the mess that has been season 5).

I’m so fascinated by Katherine and Damon’s relationship though.

She understands him in such a deep way, which allows her to manipulate him. In some ways, she understands him more than Elena.

And the reason? Because she made him.

Man or monster, Katherine Pierce made Damon Salvatore, in more than just the literal meaning, and that ultimately is his greatest weakness.
