DO NOT SUPPORT SALVATION ARMY
I can back this up. It isn’t only their shelters.
I have a family friend who worked at our local Salvation Army headquarters as a a secretary. This particular office took all the Christmas donations for children in need, put them in a warehouse, and on a designated day the staff and their friends picked through them all, taking whatever they wanted. She saw people hauling away bikes donated for specific families. Some local children had hundreds of dollars of gifts donated in their name, and on Christmas they received three cheap things, items likely not even from the person who sponsored them.
My friend quit, and I’ve not given them a dime of my money since then.
Do not give to the Salvation Army.
Do Not. Give. To. Salvation. Army
My turn.
I’m a wildfire and disaster logistics specialist.
I deal with a lot of agencies who provide disaster relief.
I used to say the Salvation Army’s disaster services were the one (literally the ONE) good thing they did.
They would come in, set up a canteen trailer, make and pass out hot coffee and donated food in a disaster, usually being one of the first agencies to get there and the last to leave.
Then I found out.
Every time they did this, regardless of if they were actually invited or deployed by the agency in charge (usually FEMA, sometimes others) they would SELF-DEPLOY. Meanjng they would just show up. Ok. That’s not TOO bad, sometimes agencies have to take initiative and get there before the red tape is sorted out. BUT. They, after they left at the end of the incident, they would send FEMA or the host agency a BILL. They used one or two paid employees (usually the driver of the truck and a supervisor); and many VOLUNTEERS, but they would bill for EVERYONE’s Labor at standard federal rates. They would bill for the food they distributed even though it was all donated by another agency or private parties. They would bill for the coffee they made and the supplies. Except they would use electricity from the shelter location, water from donations or from the shelter, and in many cases, they would get the coffee and industrial filters DONATED, but bill for them at retail prices.
Don’t FUCKING give to the Salvation Army.
The Salvation Army is also ass to the workers. A good number of people join it, naively thinking that it’s doing good, and end up leaving cynical and beaten down. The management is hostile, if not outright abusive, and demand some ridiculous hours of it lower to mid-level staff. Don’t support these people.
Unsettling update
Find better local charities and shelters and give to them instead!
plus they left a trans woman on the street. I don’t want to get into it right now, because it’s upsetting, but here’s a source: https://archive.thinkprogress.org/salvation-army-refuses-housing-shelter-to-transgender-woman-2660c79b4cd4/
(Also it’s happened multiple times so if u look it up there will probably be multiple results with different people)
THIS IS MY BATMAN

Oscar Isaac as Steven Grant MOON KNIGHT (2022) | Episode 1
...that's really...the MCU really did this instead of just making costumes and suits??? I'm not surprised but also...DC really has been treating us too well with real detailed costumes (the real leather cape and purposefully obvious stitching in new batman's cowl and whatever all the costumes in birds of prey had going on my beloveds) so this is just all the more shocking to see lmao
since we're talking about this today ..... let's really get into just how much is CGI in marvel films today. if you haven't seen this series already, please check out "Marvel Overuses CGI" on youtube which I use as a reference
obviously marvel uses VFX for things like dr strange's magic and outer space shots, but they also use it for practically any reason possible
nick fury's gun and the wall behind him
carol danver's HAIR (which. apparently wigs don't exist anymore?)
tony stark's entire iron man outfit (this is tragic bc when marvel first started out, his entire suit was real!)
the yellow jacket villain was ALL cgi
most of the cities (including nyc) are cgi
and what I think is the worst offense of all: the costumes. bc the thing is, most of the costumes start off real! tom holland, in almost every single appearance, wore a real spiderman suit!! and it looks amazing! but what do they do? they covered it up with cgi COMPLETELY. look at the differences between the civil war suits
real
completely cgi
even black panther!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! the chadwick boseman wore a REAL black panther suit just for it to be covered up with cgi. also-- this entire final battle is 100% cgi
should I mention how they don't even film outside?
I am a firm believer that cgi can be a great tool for filmmakers when used properly. I think the best examples is when its integrated into practical effects seamlessly and real physical sets and costumes are used. what marvel's doing is..... well. i'll leave that up to u
IT’S BC THE CGI PEOPLE AREN’T UNIONIZED AND EVERYTHING ELSE IS
Reblogging especially for that last point. It’s fascinating how much structural features (like what kind of work is and isn’t unionised) can influence art creation on such a major level.
You were my friend, the very best I could have asked for. Thank you.
just realized that when Marc/Steven’s eyes glow they begin as a waning crescent which turns into a full moon

For a supposed badass mercenary, Marc never truly wins.
He fails to keep Steven unaware of himself and Khonshu. He fails in keeping the scarab away from Harrow. Khonshu leads them to Cairo, and Khonshu summons the other gods after Marc fails to gather information from Harrow's goons. Hathor's avatar gives Marc the clue about Senfu's sarcophagus, while Layla gets him there and Steven finally deciphers the star chart. Marc then doesn't front until Layla confronts him about her father, and they get shot a few moments later.
All in all, not a great track record.
But Marc's real fight was never to stop Harrow. Marc's real fight was to keep moving and not give up.
While it finally becomes clear what Marc has been dealing with in episode five, he hints at it far earlier. Marc promises Steven that he will disappear after the deal with Khonshu is over in the second episode, and reinforces this in the fourth. He also tells Steven that it has been hard to even be a fly on the wall. In addition, Marc says he should have died when Layla confronts him about her farther, and he says something similar while they are down in the room with all the people he has killed.
Marc's true strength lies in the fact that despite everything, he still puts one foot in front of the other and keeps fighting. Marc was presented the opportunity to stop and be rid of Khonshu three times, each time with the cost of Harrow releasing Ammit. The first time during the trial, the second time in Mr. Great's tomb, and the final time in the Field of Reeds. But all three times he chose to go on. Despite Khonshu's abuse, despite that he was still reeling from his mother's death, and despite having to leave eternal paradise behind, Marc chose to fight.
And he did it for Layla and Steven.
If that isn't the sign of a hero, I don't know what else is.
"would you wait to weed a garden until after the roses are dead?" my brother in khonshu we use that analogy for gardening not human beings
