Honestly I think the context for this is just that Courtney is Sylvester's legacy. Being a legacy is honoring the dead and carrying on their mission. Courtney is taking that role on for Sylveste.

And yeah, the character of Courtney is literally a tribute and a way of immortalizing Johns' sister. I think this is likely just him talking about grief and remembering the dead through the text.

sometimes i'm like 'jesus christ tumblr is awful' but i remember that at least it can't come close to comparing to the sad bitterness of the people who live on twitter. checked in on the site and currently there are thousands of people losing their minds yelling at some random woman on there because she made a tweet about how she likes to sit in her garden in the mornings and have long conversations with her husband. so you have people replying with stuff like 'UMMMM some people don't have gardens OP, this is a really tone deaf thing to post :/' yeah tumblr wins every time

of course, whenever something like this occurs, the next step is that people online have to dig something up in order to retroactively justify whatever they're doing, so people are rooting through her old tweets to find some antivax posts. which is bad! but 1) those posts were clearly dug up after people were losing their shit over a random stranger posting something nice about their life; it's just a convenient post-hoc justification for something that would have occurred either way, and 2) even if someone is a really shitty, terrible person, even beyond the fact that nobody was aware of this while they were being a bunch of miserable weirdos, my instinct when a stranger posts something nice is never to complain about how them being happy is insensitive to me, a person they've never heard of before? even if they're a bad person? like that still says something about you as an individual right? it's so clearly irrelevant to what's going on here and yet it was such an inevitable result of this because this is how twitter interactions work. that's the script. time is a flat circle
