Guess who’s scar is pointed away from us the vast majority of this episode especially during all Katara’s story beats.
I don't really ascribe to the "scarred side = bad choice" thing because Zuko's scar is not something that makes him bad or monstrous. I prefer to think of it as when Zuko's scar is in focus, it means he's dwelling / acting on his trauma. In The Southern Raiders, he acts mostly on behalf of Katara.
This is really interesting. in the southern raiders we see a lot of shots of Zuko’s whole face in those pictures. it’s as if he had been on the path of healing and found acceptance for his scar. And now he is trying to help Katara on that same path of healing whatever that means to her.
[ID: 1: Meme image. Zuko's scarred side is shown with candle-light cast on his face as Iroh comes into his ship's quarters, labeled "When Zuko makes a bad choice the show shows us the left side of his face with the scar." Below, we see his determined face, unscarred side, post-redemption hair & outfit, labeled "When he makes a good decision we see the right side without it." Credit label: @only1kiishi_.
Remaining images are from "The Southern Raiders." 2: Katara scrunches her eyes shut in the rain as Zuko looks on, both of them dressed in black. 3: Zuko squats low on a rock as Katara's back is seen, standing, looking down at him. 4: Zuko's messy hair is rustled by the wind as he rides in Appa's saddle in his black sneaking outfit. 5: Zuko, lying on the ground with dust billowing in the background, holds his hand out (the moment after he's saved Katara from being crushed by rocks & she's stormed off, when he's saying he'll take that as a thank you). 6: Katara cries in the rain, as Zuko stands next to her, backgrounded behind her. 7: Animated GIF of their eye movements under their black masks. 8: Animated GIF of their hug at the end of the episode on the dock as Katara says she forgives Zuko.
