No one knows, that's how it goes

Sleepless nights aren't new to me. All these thoughts are killing me. Someone come and put me to ease all of my ANXIETY, there's no cause that I can see. What's this scratching out my brain! And I can't stop even if I wanted to. Up top, maybe I'm simply deluded. That's right, maybe I've been wasting my time.

“Trust me, you can and it can be some pretty gnarly heartburn if you’re not careful,” Trixie warned with a knowing look. “Of course you are, who could say no to free margs?” She wiggled her eyebrows. “No silly!” She playfully nudged Mike. “BTS!! They’re coming over the summer, we’re going, right?! Please say yes, please say yes!” She pouted cutely, fluttering her wings at him in anticipatory excitement. 

“I thought that was just because we were getting older?” He shrugged it off before putting his attention back on her. “Yeah! Yeah! That’s what I meant. BTS. Are we going to see your favorite band around your birthday? I would be the absolute worst best friend if I said no. Of COURSE WE ARE TRIXIE! It’s like you don’t know me at all.” Besides, there was really no way he could say no to her.

Heaven help you know if you don’t know the difference between Boy in Luv versus Boy with Luv,” She teased him with a smile. “I dunno if fairies can hear heartbeats, but I know dragons do. I heard that fairies can feel out different energies, however—at least that’s what I remember.” 

“Right, right. I’m sure it is,” he grinned. “Uh...are those different songs? Or is one a band? Am I going to have to study?” Mike let out a soft sigh. Not his favorite thing in the world, but if it meant giving Trixie a goo birthday, he’d do it. “Different energies like what exactly?”

“Spike Meowski!” She had seen him before just not getting the name perfect quite yet. “Oh! Am I?” They were in fact on and blue as ever. Even the slippers were blue with matching white polkadots. “I must have been sleepwalking again. I wonder if I can sleep surf….”  

“I...actually, you know what, I think that’s the closest you’ve gotten so I’ll give it to ya. I have a hard last name.” His eyes narrowed slightly in concern. “I don’t think sleep surfing is a good idea, Dory. That just sounds like an accident waiting to happen.”

   The sleepwalking had gotten out of control the moment she had grabbed her keys and walked right out onto the sidewalk. In nothing but her pajamas and some fluffy slippers to aid her against the cold she continued along without fully waking up. Until a collision happened between her and some poor soul that had got in her way. Now she was awake. Eyes widening and now frantically looking for her keys she had dropped. “Oh! I am so sorry. You’re not hurt are you?” Worried not about herself but how she had probably ruined this person’s night in a matter of seconds. “Wait a minute, were you following me?”

“Dory?” His head tilted to the side as he rounded the corner and crashed into the familiar blonde. “You know you’re in your pajamas, right? And slippers?” He nodded in the direction she’d been walking from. “Where were you headed to, anyway?”

“Oh, as long as you’re sure! I just know there’s a few people behind you that aren’t too happy with me.” She gave a sheepish grin. “Though I suppose I’d feel the same if someone else was hogging the line and our precious life resource.” Lucy joked.

“I’m sure. Ah, they’ll be fine! They just need a laugh...” Turning around, Mike flashed them a grin before speaking to the person right behind him. “Did you know that a plateau is the highest form of flattery?” When they didn’t laugh, he turned back towards Lucy. “I’m out of ideas. They’re miserable.”

“Yeah but you don’t want to get a stomachache either,” Trixie nudged Mike with a knowing look. “Yesssss! We can get the giant platter so we can share? Margaritas on me?” She smiled excitedly. “Oh oh oh! And I do have a concert pitch because y’know…a certain band is coming back to the States…” 

“I’ve never had that happen!” Of course, he’d never eaten two meals in a row. “Sounds good to me. I’m always down for free-to-me margaritas.” Mike couldn’t help but grin at her excitement. “Let me guess...Big Time Rush?”

“What am I a Pokémon?!?!” Nova scoffed with a look. “While yes, a wild Nova was lurking, a wild Nova spotted a wild Mike and she had to ask him what his favorite songs were—for science,” She grinned brightly. “BTS, Olivia Rodrigo, and Astronaut in the Ocean by Masked Wolf?” She answered with a bright grin. “Wait, come on, you should know BTS’ whole discography now with Trixie around!” She smirked at the mention of her and nudged Mike. “Because you liiikeee her. I should know, my dragon hearing can tune into heartbeats like the radio and when you’re around her it’s does this ka-dunkdunkdunkdunkdunkdunk sound.” 

“I’ve never heard of this for science,” he said skeptically. “Yeah, yeah, yeah, I know I should know the entire discography but I don’t.” It wasn’t that he didn’t like music, he liked it just fine but he tuned it out quite a bit especially when he was with friends. “I--you--that’s not even--oh my god. You don’t think she hears it do you?”

Trixie almost wanted to laugh watching Mike’s bewildered expression, but she smiled, her wings happily flitting in the sunlight. “Hey, you never know, what if you had already eaten, hmmm?” She teased. “Ooh—well as much as we could eat everything, we shouldn’t. Oh! What about Santiago’s? Or do we want a quick bite from The Teacup?” 

“I would eat again, obviously,” he grinned. Maybe not a lot, but Trixie was his best friend. He wasn’t going to turn down the chance to hang out with her. “Oh! Let’s to Santiago’s. Nachos sound so fucking good right now.”

“Mike!” Trixie caught up with the man, rather than running, she flitted her wings over towards him, landing right in front of him with a big smile. “Hi. Did you wanna go grab some food?”

Hearing a familiar voice, Mike’s gaze darted around unsure of what direction Trixie was approaching from. “Trixie...that’s a ridiculous question. Of course, I wanna grab some food.” He flashed a grin in her direction. “What sounds good? Cause I’m thinking...everything.”

Nova let out a laugh, doing her best to hold herself together at Mike’s screaming. “I’m sorry, I’m sorry,” she said in between laughter. “Oh my god, I don’t think I’ve ever heard anyone scream like that before!” She teased her friend with a silly grin. “Well, come on think long and hard about it, Mikey, I’ve got pretty much all day to hear it! Unless…you and Trixie got plans? HMMMMM?” 

“It’s just that..you know...you weren’t there and then all of the sudden you were without any WARNING! And I didn’t scream...I...alerted...people that there was...that...a wild Nova appeared.” His shoulders lifted in a shrug. “Uh...probably not my favorite but they’ve been playing some songs on repeat at the bookstore so...uh....Butter by that boy band...uh...Good 4 U by...someone and...uh...Astronaut in...the sea? No...that’s not right. I--hey! We do have plans but why you gotta say it like that? Hmmmmm?”

Coffee was what would motivate her, or at least she hoped it would.​ However going on a coffee run meant everyone at the office wanted one too. With a large order she knew the customers in line wouldn’t be too happy. Turning to look behind her she offered a sorrowful expression. “I’m so sorry for the wait! I can pay for you order in exchange for the time you had to wait.”

He was running through a routine in his head as he waited meaning that time didn’t matter much to him at the moment. Mike let out a soft laugh at one of his own jokes as Lucy turned to offer to pay for his order. His eyes darted back and forth briefly. How long had he been waiting? He wasn’t sure. “Oh, I mean, it’s not a big deal. I’m just getting a latte.”

A short scream escaped him as Nova popped up in front of him. “Fuck! You gotta stop doing that, Nova!” He smoothed down his shirt, tugging on the hem as he tried to reclaim his dignity after his scream traveled across campus. “Oh, you know I’m not good at this game. You just scared every song I’ve ever heard out of my head!”

THE RELATIONSHIPS CHALLENGE

Mike + Trixie

Honestly, these two are so much fun together. Anytime there’s a thread between Mike and Trixie, I know I’m probably about to laugh my ass off. That doesn’t mean they can’t talk about serious stuff though and I think that’s a sign of a true friendship. They know when it’s time to goof off, when it’s time to uplift each other, and when it’s time to just be there.
