hello tumblr! i'm researching the phandom as a part of my sociology course, please take this survey if you'd like to provide some data for me to use in my report! all responses are kept anonymous and participating is entirely optional, responses will only be used for my schoolwork.
In the new interview with Variety the boys mentioned the audience growing up and it left me wondering as someone in there 30s how much of the Phandom is closer in age to the boys. I know there are people under 18 but kinda iffy on including that so yea. (If this is to invasive I’ll delete)
new phannie here- if and when dnp go on tour again, what exactly is the m&g etiquette?
how long do you have, how many pics can you take, what can they sign, can you give them gifts, etc?

the biggest thing i’d say is definitely study all the m&g videos on twitter to get the vibe and see their script because dnp tend to stick with their pattern (x) and people film the whole experience
steps
when you're next in the queue you’ll put anything you’re not taking to dnp in a designated area behind the backdrop (like your coat, bag, anything that’s not your phone and the things you want signed or to show dnp)
- you can bring gifts (though nothing large! generally people bring them fanart, local snacks, letters, etc and they love that <3)
- they'll sign literally anything you want! they've signed peoples pill bottles and prosthetic limbs and masters thesis i promise they've seen it all
2. sarah (their merch manager and assistant with m&gs) will talk to you for a second behind the backdrop and take your phone so she can film you coming around the corner to meet them (if you’re nervous just tell her!!! she’s genuinely The Best person to have before dnp like she’s truly incredible)
- turn on live photo OR screen record before you give your phone to sarah so you can grab screenshots off the recording of them taking pics (because dan is notorious for blurry photos and having a live photo or screenshot of a video will give you a better chance of having a solid frame)
3. you’ll walk around in front of the backdrop and you'll immediately be in front of dnp
- usually dan will be the first one you see and he'll have his arms open and ask if you want a hug. he'll hug you and then pass you off to phil (it's so smooth and practiced you won't even notice it's crazy)
- dan will ask if you want anything signed and probably grab anything in your hand (he likes to SNATCH) and ask if it's for them. they're so well trained they understand that people can forget what comes next so they're good at prompting you
- if you have a speech or something you want to say prepared make a point to announce you have something to say and dnp will stop and really focus on you (otherwise they're going to move to the next step and ask if you want to take a photo) write down and practice anything you want to say, maybe give them a letter if you’re extra nervous in case you forget because it is a lot to turn the corner and see dan howell standing in front of you with his massive arms out
- sarah has been filming the whole time from a few feet away so this is when you'll all pose for full body shots. if you don't ask for a specific pose they'll just naturally put you between them and do a couple cute standing poses (however lots of people Do have specific poses they wanna do/they bring props and dnp are so game for almost anything)
- dan is going to take your phone from sarah and ask if you want some selfies (same thing with the full body pics, if you don't have a pose in mind they'll just take some group selfies with you in the middle). most people also ask for individual pics and if you do then dan will take a pic of you and phil and then phil will take one of you and dan
- dan will give you your phone back and say thank you for coming and enjoy the show and you will somehow have to will yourself to walk away from them
general advice
they genuinely genuinely love meeting you and want this to be Your ideal experience so do not worry about bothering them or thinking you’re taking up too much time (and if you are they’re really good at wrapping things up)
the whole thing will last between 45 seconds-2 minutes but it will feel like an hour and you are going to feel SO disoriented afterwards (especially if it's your first time ever seeing them irl) so take a second to regulate
BRING A SNACK FOR AFTER IM SO SERIOUS you are gonna be locked in venue with nothing but bar snacks from 4pm-10:30pm and that post m&g crash is real
HAVE SO MUCH FUN AND TALK TO PEOPLE!!!! people are SO lovely and i promise anyone you’re next to in line/at the show will be enjoyable to talk to <333 like i’ve become mutuals with strangers who happen to sat next to me at previous shows!
Hi…as a phannie over 40 whose first chance to see them live is this show. Real talk: am I too old?
i personally know like 20 people over 40 who are going to the shows and several getting m&g! also phil will BE 40 on this tour so ofc you're not too old?!
dnp have ALWAYS had a large portion of their audience who are their age or older! they're just not as vocal or willing to doxx their personal info as the 20 somethings/teens but you will be shocked to see just how many 35+ phannies are on tour! and they're genuinely the best people to meet at shows because everyone is sooo chill and cool and welcoming <333
