The Crow24 : Breadcrumbs
***SPOILER*** In the last scene where Shelly is having an underground concert, Eric says “our love will live on in everything she does. Someday I know our souls will find each other again…” when the camera pans back, on the far right a tiny crow is standing by watching her perform. In the next scene that same crow flies back down to purgatory and Eric’s eyes change back to normal. So he might not be with her, but he’s always watching over her. Say what you want about this film but that tiny attention to detail circling back to the heart of The Crow, the infinite unconditional love shared by these two was handled with care.
So there’s been a lot of misconception about FKA Twigs and her ability to capture Shelly’s spirit.. so let’s hear some facts
(1) FKA Twigs is a classically trained dancer. She learned ballet age 8. Struggling to fit ballets ideal she left.
(2) Shelly (The Crow by James O’Barr) always wanted to be a ballerina, she loved to dance but didn’t fit the ballerina image. So instead she makes Eric dance with her. (ALOT)
(3) The Crow 2024, Shelly and Eric often dance not once but a few times. Versace boxers and all.
FKA Twigs IS the PERFECT choice for Shelly bc she carries Shelly’s spirit with a modern twist. Ater all Shelly isn’t just a sub character in a 94’ film, she’s the main character.
Every time Eric called Shelley “baby” in The Crow (2024) had me like 😭😭😭🥰🥰🥰💞💞💞🫠🫠🫠🫠🔥🔥🔥🔥🚀🚀🚀🚀🚀
So I went to go see The Crow 2024 and omgggg I couldn’t have been happier with this film 💕. My only critique is that the pace is hella fast. I love that it doesn’t resemble the 94 Crow in any way shape or form. So ppl mentioning it’s a remake… Need to cease and desist for the simple fact that it quite clearly displays within the first few minutes, this adaptation is based off of James O’Barr “The Crow”. I love that the characters don’t carry the 94 films names bc that would be tasteless. Eric is simply Eric no Draven and Shelly is simply Shelly. The chemistry portrayed between Bill and FKA Twigs is so undeniable I cried (literally I did) sat in that chair kicking my feet and giggling. They’re so adorable, tragic and relatable. Their personalities mesh together so well, it’s easy to see why they were cast. Ppl claiming otherwise often have alternative motivations as to why they don’t see it so I’ll leave that where it stands. Lastly, I love the way they added a new lore to the story which was unexpected and genuinely fun to watch. Overall I give it 4.9/5
