It literally doesn't work on some people, I can tell when actors are communicating to stand-ins or to no one and if establishing shots are stock or on-location, and I only respond to the emotion within a shot itself. The effect was lied about, by the way. It's not that it's fake, but its purported universality was total bullshit. The way it was reported on when "demonstrated" was "and then everybody clapped" tier. It was mind-numbingly very obvious bunk exaggeration, and should be re-evaluated with extreme scepticism.
